(75,188 posts)First thing I do is check PayPal and every single time, no such transaction exists.
As I only pay for 3 or 4 things by PayPal, a recent history is easy to review.
Then just delete the email.
I will acknowledge the emails look pretty authentic, though. That said, they don't actually come from PayPal, so pretty bright red flag.

(10,133 posts)They usually list the addresses of the address used to spam me and countless others. ). I check the message in the reply mode, which lists the address of the sender. If they dont have an address that doesnt even remotely look like something PP would use, I delete it as junk

(1,715 posts)I check my credit union regularly, because I've had my eBay account hacked, and a couple of times my debit card.
I never ever click on links in emails. I always verify anything by going directly to an account and looking for any message/notice.
I used to get texts from Amazon about some sort of issue that was going to get my account closed if I didn't act immediately. Right now! The thing is, Amazon doesn't have my cell phone number. I don't give that out to businesses, and only have one government bureau (technically) that has it because I have to verify it's me and only a text will work.
I may have actually been born at night, but it wasn't last night.
