Florida man opens fire during argument over how many eggs a chicken can lay: police

David Edwards
November 6, 2025 11:00AM ET

Peter Riera, 44, opened fire in Port St. Lucie, Florida, during an argument over how many eggs a chicken can lay, according to witnesses.

All of the parties involved in the argument were said to have been drinking. No one was reportedly hit with gunfire. Two of the victims were arrested for resisting officers.

“Arming yourself with a handgun when you're under the influence is not a good idea. There's never going to be a good outcome with that," Mesiti noted.

Our neighbor's "free range backyard chickens " tended to lay one egg at a time, but depending on the weather and I guess how stressed the chicken is, it could be twice daily or as as long as two weeks apart.
It could be a bit of an Easter egg hunt looking for random eggs if the hen didn't feel like brooding in the hutch. Some even ended up in our backyard; the chickens liked to hang out in the Mulberry tree next to the property line between us and them, and often ended up in our backyard.
(Free medium sized brown eggs, if we could keep our dog at the time from snarfing them down when we let her out in the backyard for "business" )

Can only describe what happened next door; they had a dozen and a half or so hens, and at least two or thee of them regularly visited our veggie garden and left eggs.
Also had wild bunnies and raccoons back there, the neighborhood was one of those 1930's/40's California city lots with the double backyard for gardens or fruit trees - off a canyon.

The first year they're laying you can get 200 to 300 eggs out of one. It goes down by about 20 percent per year, so if you get 200 eggs in your first year you get about 160 in the second, 120 in the third, 80 in the fourth and after that you should go ahead and make soup out of that hen.

These numbers are pretty much what my hens would do. One big problem we had was snakes, they would eat the eggs and could really cut into my daily egg harvest.

A Florida man with the last name “Cocaine” was arrested for allegedly threatening employees at a Subway restaurant at knifepoint after he was upset by their “bad attitudes,” cops said.

Edward Cocaine, 45, was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly flipped out at a Subway in Brevard County while trying to order food with a pal.

Cocaine sparked an argument with the employees over what he believed was poor customer service, which quickly escalated after he had hurdled over the counter, pushed one of the employees and pulled out a knife, the Brevard County Sheriff said.
