Trump Falsely Says Gas Prices Have Reached A 20-Year Low--Here's The Real Data

Topline

President Donald Trump falsely claimed Wednesday that gasoline prices have fallen to their lowest point in 20 years, contradicting data from multiple sources showing current costs are above what they were in 2005.

Key Facts

Trump, who spoke at the America Business Forum in Miami, said “gasoline prices have plummeted to the lowest in two decades.”

The national average for gas prices is nearly $3.10 per gallon as of Wednesday, according to GasBuddy data, just above the level it was at last year.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in a tweet the average price of gas Wednesday “would need to decline below $3 to $2.96 on average to fall to its lowest level since 2021.”

This is why it's a good issue for Dems to put front and center. Trump can lie about grocery prices all he wants. It's not like lying about trans kids. People are exposed to the truth every time they get gas or check out of the grocery store. Ideology will cause them to deny it for a while, but you can't eat your ideology. Reality catches up far faster than it does for Trump's goofy cultural issues.

Right before he took office the first time and within weeks a Colonial Pipeline incident raised it up permanently to well over $2.00. My last fill up was $2.55 in my area.

but for all the wrong reasons. They fell again in 2020, but again for all the wrong reasons. Gas prices are reasonably low to be fair.

Not good, expected this and just like during COVID. Gasoline has a shelf life. With a lack of tourists and flights it's not being used.
