... if they thought earning a no bill was an embarrassment, why not test your luck with a 12 Angry D.C. citizens? ...
... Responding to the motion to dismiss, prosecutors said Dunn was recorded throwing a sandwich at a federal officer at point-blank range suggesting sandwiches become especially deadly at some specific distance. In line with this effort to drum up testimony that sounded ominous without being a blatant lie, the trial prep clearly landed on the phrase kind of exploded to help dupe jurors into thinking this was an IED in Fallujah and not a $5 footlong on U street ...

(5,047 posts)The trial lasted three days.
Imagine the wasted money of a whole group of prosecutors, jurors, and the courts time.
The bill should go directly to Trump

,,, Arguments in the trial of Sean Dunn, aka Sandwich Guy, began yesterday. US Customs and Border Patrol Agent Gregory Lairmore testified that Dunns airborne sub kind of exploded all over my uniform. Presented with a photo of an intact sandwich on the ground following the incidentwhich the Trump administration is prosecuting as misdemeanor assault after failing to convince a grand jury that it was a felonyLairmore maintained that he had mustard and condiments on my uniform, and an onion hanging from my radio antenna that night' ...

... It was never in doubt that Dunn threw a sandwich at a federal officer at 14th and U streets in August, shouting, Fuck you! You fucking fascists! Why are you here? I dont want you in my city! ...
Despite Dunns offer to surrender, the administration sent armed troops to his apartment and filmed his arrest ...
Pirros office was unable to get a grand jury to OK felony charges against Dunn, though, and proceeded with misdemeanor charges anyway. Despite that embarrassment, the government agreed to Dunns attorneys request for a jury trial in the matter. The trial, which began this week, was suitably absurd, with Customs and Border Patrol Agent Gregory Lairmore, who received the unwanted delivery of Dunns dinner, testifying that the sandwich kind of exploded all over my uniformdespite photos that showed it still in its wrapper on the ground afterward, prompting jokes like If the sandwich dont split, you must acquit. On Thursday, a DC jury apparently agreed with that formulation.

(60,320 posts)3) Police and NG are likely to be told to write the guy a ticket for $70, which they should have done in the first place. Thus mischief makers are unlikely to get much publicity at all.
4) But they take a risk they'd get shot and they know it.
5) Unreported, and I do not know, but I think this was impulsive, not "malice aforethought", which mitigates in his favour, but less likely to be a defence in other cases because this case got so much publicity.
