OK Democrats - Let's not snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Stand your ground on the shut down.

Here is the real take away from Tuesday's elections. Trump and MAGA are both on an accelerating death spiral. Broad swaths of the electorate rejected both on Tuesday.

The Democrats principled stand on the health care issue has already won over a majority of the people. Even a large number of Republican Senators and Representatives realize this. Senate Republicans have already defied Trump by refusing to entertain his demand to do away with the filibuster. That could have something to do with they realize that they may be in the minority in the next Congress. I have no doubt they are ready to cut a deal with the Democrats on health care and several other things as well.

Dynamics amongst Republicans in the House are rapidly changing. Trump is greatly weakened and his threats of primary challenges to sitting members with ever more far far right wing candidates no longer is the real threat. After Tuesday they now realize that the real threat is from pissed off voters in both parties. They also realize that the only way they can possibly hold on to their seats is to make some sort of attempt at rational governing. That means that the shut down must end ASAP. When the Senate sends a compromise budget bill to the House, it will only take a few sane (more or less) Republicans along with Democrats to pass it. The pressure on Trump will be overwhelming from all sides and he will be forced to sign the bill.

I'm going to go out on a limb here. Over the next few days Republicans are going to continue to get an earful from angry constituents. The handwriting is on the wall. Republican Representatives are going to demand that MAGAt Mike (who I'm betting is going back down the road to obscurity fairly soon) reconvene the House. Both houses of Congress will cut a deal by next week. It will cover health care costs, SNAP benefits, guarantees that furloughed employees will get back pay, and several other small goodies. The Democrats will be handed the best campaign issue ever too take into the midterms. Trump's weakness will be even more obvious.

And I’m talking about Trump going after them for inconveniencing his progress in dismantling out country. There is no scenario in which a bargain that doesn’t meet the demands for healthcare and food will be acceptable by the No Kings supporters - millions and millions.

Imagine most of the pain and suffering and hunger “they” put us through is because someone wants to cover up a pedophile ring. Todays Republican Party. And at this hour the cover up is still alive and well.

4. Republicans do not negotiate in good faith. They do not keep their word.

I think everybody knows that by now. They could make a deal and Trump could come back and decide to make them go back on their word.

5. Agree 100%--Dems need to hold the line

The Tuesday results show that the public wants a party that is going to fight, rather than appease. It's hard to vote for someone who says, "This is terrible! We're not going to let this happen!" and then lets it happen anyway.

Please Democratic leadership, hold the line.

Trump is expecting an election in Tennessee to go his way, which would cancel out Grijalva's vote to release the Epstein files:

That vote is Dec. 2. No idea what Trump will do if his candidate loses.

... the prevailing attitude of the leadership under the influence of consultants with questionable loyalties. Here's hoping they recommend that the aforementioned consultants start updating their resumés. The consultants have, in my opinion, betrayed the founding principles of the Democratic Party. The Progressives and "Democratic Socialists"* can steer a true and steady course back to those principles, if the leadership will let them.

* When boorish liars like Ted Cruz call Mamdani "Comrade", correct them by saying, socialism is simply putting the best interests of society as a whole ahead of the best interests of billionaires and corporations.

9. Dems are at peak negotiating leverage

They need to move the goalposts:

"The election results are clear. The American people do not support anything Republicans are doing. Any settlement must include these things: reinstatement of all Inspectors General with guaranteed independence from administration interference, a clear declaration from Congress that the President has no power to set tariffs, a freeze on all ICE hiring and a freeze on any national guard deployments without the agreement of the affected Governor. and appointment of a special counsel to investigate any threats by Trump to punish states and cities by illegally withholding funds."

We won't get all these things, but the Republicans will squeal like pigs and that will help educate the public.

So simple and effective. Couldn't be clearer. Don't know why it's not said bluntly and honestly every day in MSM.
