Florida DOGE doing its expected hit job. Gives high marks to UCF and low marks to New College.

New College was the liberal college university that was taken over by the governor, so it's in transition. It's hard to say what is causing the higher costs, because it's been in Republican control for several years. .

However, to say that UCF is the top is sad. UCF in Florida stands for U Can't Finish. Courses that you may need for graduation don't get offered in enough frequency for a clean four year degree. But, I get it. DOGE is a partisan organization.

Florida’s DOGE released analysis of public university spending, operations
In one category, New College of Florida’s spending was nearly double UF’s

Gov. Ron DeSantis said at a Wednesday news conference the Florida DOGE team has worked to eliminate millions of dollars in diversity, equity and inclusion expenditures at public universities while cutting “waste and woke ideology.”

The Florida DOGE has cancelled or repurposed over $33 million in DEI-related grants in state universities, the department wrote the same day in a press release DeSantis reposted on X. The department has also identified $10.6 million in grants for community colleges it’s working to repurpose or cancel, the release said.

The governor announced Florida’s DOGE efforts Feb. 24, and he named the review of colleges and universities as one of the department’s primary tasks. The audit’s results would be used to advise the Board of Governors and State Board of Education to eliminate “any wasteful spending.”

The study results show New College of Florida, in Sarasota, had the highest operating expenses per student, with over $83,000 spent in fiscal year 2024. The next-highest was UF at about $45,800 spent per student.

They’ve already tried to grab the Ringling Museum and other gems. This state has really gone to shit since Lawton Chiles died.

And in some ways, these results are the opposite of what one would expect, since the DeSantis regime would be expected to laud the school they took over and attack the liberal research university.

Also, I drove behind a UCF shuttle the other day, and the message painted in the back was:

UCF orgullosamente sirviendo a la communidad latina.
UCF proudly serves the Latino community.

So, yes. Your take may be better than mine.
