(2,742 posts)And I don't just mean Jennings. Do you think those dismissing Mamdani really believe what they are saying? Or are they just saying these dumbass things to appease their corporate masters?

(7,888 posts)But I hate David Hogg. Hogg's been running around spreading lies about Democrats not fighting back. Now we've gone all the way to shut down and he ought to be taking it back. He's not of course.

(6,108 posts)I think some Democrats have been awfully passive as Trump is bulldozing our democracy. I think we need younger guys like Hogg to call people out.
I think just in the last month we've seen Democrats fight back by demanding the extension of the ACA tax credits be part of any bill to end the government shutdown. Before that many of us was wondering what the fuck they were doing.

(7,888 posts)specific suggestions of thing they could go that would make a big difference but aren't doing now. I never get any valid suggestions. Do you have any? How about when Trump launched his gerrymandering scams and we responded in kind? How about all the lawsuits we've filed? How about zero dem votes for the big ugly bill and much else? We've been doing all we can. Its not easy when Trump has so much power and a large segment of the population totally brainwashed and a crooked Supreme Court backing him up.
And please don't buy into Hogg's age discrimination. He's dividing us when we need more than ever to be united.

(28,545 posts)the fake Age War. Demonizing culture wars attacks on Democrats from all sides, the only ones doing the job of governing and legislating policies helping the American people.
How frustrating it must be trying so hard to make "centrists" and Schumer the big scary terrible enemy we should all get mad at instead of Republicans. The "fight" thing is that just the right magic explanation will make Republicans understand and do what's right but they do not understand so Democrats aren't fighting (they should fight like Republicans, they are scolded). Designated non-fighters and fighters can say exactly the same things but the non-fighter is invisible, unheard, doesn't exist because it doesn't fit the script.

(6,108 posts)1. The states that have responded in kind to gerrymandering have done so because of strong state leadership. States have done the most to stand up to Trump. They've passed legislation to redistrict and They've filed many of the lawsuits that have at least slowed down Trump's terror against this country. And the states delivered strong election results this week.
2. I don't think Hogg is pushing age discrimination. I think he's calling out that in many cases our leadership is out of touch with constituents. I'm 55. I know the difference between older and old. Between my parents and my in-laws, I deal with old. Not only is their judgement not as good; their perspective is not as good.
3. Not voting for the big beautiful piece of shit bill is not standing up to anyone. It's doing their job.
4. Resistance is in a large part is appearance. Our Democratic Senators appear submissive. Their body language and words are not inspiring. Their delivery is flat. For good or bad, there is a performative aspect to politics. I'm not asking them to try to out Trump Trump. But I'd like to see some passion. I'd like to see rapid responses. When Evil Mike calls us radicals and extremist, I want a firey rebuke.
5. That said, I'm happy we are standing firm about requiring an extension of ACA tax breaks being part of any continuing resolution.
I'm not saying I wouldn't caste my vote for these people. I'm just saying I want more. I remember at the end of October last year sitting in Fritzels on Burbon street listening to this guy killing it on the piano. As I drank my beer I wondered to myself if we were sitting on the precipice of fascism. The election was a little over a week away but I felt doom in the air. And I thought how in the world are we all just going about our business as if everything was normal. That feeling has continued to hang over me like a storm cloud. And while I don't wish for rain, rain feels inevitable.

(7,888 posts)Keeps saying we need to get rid of the old people and replace them with younger folks. Older folks have experience. Its foolish to get rid of them and he's only helping the Fascists by dividing us.
I don't get what you want. Do you want our leaders to scream and wail? That would not be effective.
I know its frustrating to watch right get away with murder. Please keep your attacks on those who are truly causing the problems, the right.
