Forfend is an unusual word in that its most commonly used sense is considered archaic, meaning it survives in English chiefly in specialized uses. When forfend was first used in the 14th century, it meant “to forbid.” It still does but only in phrases, like “heaven forfend” or “God forfend,” that have an exaggeratedly old-timey ring to them. (The use is also typically humorous and/or ironic.) Put another way, substituting forfend for forbid in any other context would sound strange, as in “students are forfended from using cell phones in the classroom.” Other senses of forfend, including “to protect or preserve” and “to ward off or prevent,” are current, though much less common. The fend part of the word comes from the same Latin source as defend.

A brilliant (they use that word in a Guiness commercial) use of grammar - and a meaningful and timely explanation of it's use.

Now, find a MAGAT that can understand ANY of it.................

I was hoping his demise would be more spectacular, like tripping over his platform shoes going down an escalator, but death by narcolepsy will have to do.

You know the scene - old folks home, lots propped up in chairs at night watching TV.
In the morning, those that didn't 'make it' get carted away in undertaker's vans.

Everyone calling me out on a mahogany box lined in ruffled cream satin being too tasteful for Donald is absolutely correct.

It will most likely be a Lucite box adorned with gold plastic appliques and his name in a bridal invite font, and the fabric will be a yellow-gold polyester lamé.

Lucite box!
Well, that

Remains to be seen.

My uncle sat in his recliner dosing while about forty people mingled and visited. (editing to acknowledge "dosing" should read "dozing&quot

I actually enjoyed the event, catching up with relatives, but my uncle was totally oblivious to everything going on.

My uncle passed about 6 months later.

No reason to spend money on a casket. Just lower him into a 4x5x6 foot hole with recliner.

Sorry - morbid. Might be your favorite uncle.
