MI-SEN: Tlaib endorses El-Sayed for Michigan's U.S. Senate seat
U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib on Saturday endorsed Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan's competitive U.S. Senate primary.
Tlaib, a Democrat from Detroit, announced her backing of El-Sayed, former director of Wayne County's health department, during a town hall on health care, according to El-Sayed's campaign. In a statement, the fourth-term congresswoman cited El-Sayed's support for expanding Medicare to cover every American.
"Im proud to endorse Abdul El-Sayed to be our next senator," Tlaib said. As a health equity champion and Medicare for all advocate, Abdul leads with a grassroots vision for change centered on inclusion and dignity for Michigan families."
In January, U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, revealed that he wouldn't seek reelection in 2026, setting up a race for an open Senate seat in a battleground state.
