if for no other reason that our present system is just not sustainable. However, the longer this mess continues that is less likely. It would take a economic black swan event to move to a system where health not profit is the motive. And I hope that doesn't happen.

Universal child care would something else that would be economically helpful.

Nationalizing hospitals would address one of the root problems of health care costs AND would ensure a fair distribution of services, which currently doesn't exist.

Utility companies (electric, gas) don't have the same free market pressures like other industries, which is why they require something like a corporation commission to control pricing. Consumers generally have no choice in who they get their power and gas from, so nationalizing the industry and running them as non profits just makes economic sense and would put money in the pockets of American families.

The airline industry is already massively subsidized, why not have a national carrier and let the private companies compete with regional and commuter flights? The price reductions and simplification if flights would stimulate the economy and save Americans money.

10. National Health (and not just care)

The term "socialized" being applied to anything just shows how absurdly imprisoned we are by language.

Here we go: Let's make it a common goal to have the healthiest, most prosperous citizenry we possibly can. I don't care how we get there.

That's not just getting common funding so that everybody can be fed into the maw of rampant, robotically prescribed pharmaceutical consumption and permanent reliance on the services of the medical and psychological guilds.

We need a national health program, not just national healthcare. That includes nutrition and exercise and activities that promote health. The twin goals should be to maximize health care availability and minimize the need for it.

11. maslov's hierarchy of needs
Sun Nov 9, 2025, 04:06 PM

i think those 1st level needs : food water shelter sort of define "civilization."

here they are , from wikipedia ...

Maslow's hierarchy of needs, proposed by Abraham Maslow, is a psychological framework that categorizes human motivation into five levels of needs:

Physiological Needs: Basic requirements for human survival, such as food, water, and shelter.

Safety Needs: The need for security and protection from physical and emotional harm.

Love and Belongingness Needs: The desire for interpersonal relationships, affection, and community.

Esteem Needs: The need for self-esteem, recognition, and respect from others.

Self-Actualization Needs: The pursuit of personal growth, self-fulfillment, and realizing one's potential.
This hierarchy suggests that individuals must satisfy lower-level needs before they can address higher-level needs.

The US system is an anomaly in the developed world. My guess is that the use of the tax code to make Healthcare something that could be offered to employees at a cost less than the value to their employees led to companies offering insurance as a benefit.

When ACA was done, the concern for many ( pushed by Republicans) was it could jeopardize the company provided (or subsidized) plans many already had. There also was the belief of many that those commercial policies were "better" than what the government could provide.

Rocketry companies, space-based communication systems in specific.

Most of Elon Musk's empire should be nationalized.

I also think basic scientific research should be conducted by public institutions. Profit making organizations should not be doing medical development, etc.

Sick of the one percenters burning up the planet’s resources for their fun and profit.

Health care, education and transportation, too, of course.
