"The deal also includes voting in December to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies..."

Congressional Democrats have reached a deal to end the longest government shutdown in history, according to a new report.

Multiple sources granted anonymity told Axios that at least 10 Democrats plan to vote on the deal, which includes supporting a procedural motion to approve a series of short-term spending bills that fund the government through the end of the year. The deal also includes voting in December to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies that Democrats have been fighting to preserve, according to the report.

There is also a negotiation to reinstate all of the federal workers Trump laid off during the shutdown, the report adds.

"Talks are fluid, and no deal is final until lawmakers have voted," Axios reported. "But the discussions are progressing toward a deal that would end weeks of deadlock in the Senate."

Because if there is no guarantee to hold it in the House, you're basically doing a performative act here since the House won't take it up.

No matter, I doubt there are 60 votes in the Senate anyway to extend the subsidies.

The whole reason Democrats refused the deal originally was to hold the Republicans' feet to the fire and get them to accept a subsidy extension because they knew they weren't going to get it otherwise.

This deal basically guarantees nothing, so what the hell was the point?

We need to realize that Trump does not want this, if for no other reason than the ACA is also referred to as ObamaCare, and Trump has an obsession with reversing or eradicating anything that carries his name.

I can tell you exactly what will happen.

Trump will "work" the Republicans every day between the "agreement" and the day the vote is taken.

He'll start with locker room coach pep talks, and if they don't work, he'll go directly to threats.

He will make sure that every single Republican feels that they have something to lose by voting for the extension.

So, none of them will.

But as the article says, "nothing is decided yet."

by calling Trump and having Trump threaten them (to run people against them). It happened to our local rep who started out against vouchers. He caved after the call from Trump.

Trump gets down in the trenches and threatens these guys - and he will find the money to run people against them.

If we give in now that will be the end of ACA subsidies.

And, the problem is, if Republicans can ultimately "prevail" against the ACA, as long as they have the votes, they can "prevail" against anything that's not in the Project 2025 manifesto.

This is why we're hearing so much frenzied talk from Republicans regarding the midterms. This is why Trump is "rushing" them. He knows. He's got to check off every item on the wish list before next November. And I refuse to join the "WHAT IF HE CANCELS THE MIDTERMS" crowd. I know it's a possibility. I'm just not going to buy into it.

I mean, he could. But the problem with worrying about that is that it's another deflection, and we also can't control what he does anyway. All we can do is react. We've got a problem right now in front of us & we do have some power if we hold the line. Schumer should be on the phone to every one of those corporate dems and calling them out.

McConnell wouldn't being a SCOTUS nominee to the floor because it was an election year, then did exactly that 4 years later.
They can't be trusted.
Plus, if the do bring a vote to the floor, they simply vote en bloc and with the majority it gets killed.
This is not a shrewd deal in an way.

...and chose not to.

So the "value" of that is largely subjective, because it only matters if voters realuze that voting Republican is not in their best interests.

The Republican messaging, on Fox & Newsmax, is repetitive and designed to fan the flames of anger and resentment. And "low information voters" are glued to those channels.

I'd say the "value" of the Dems having held out is directly tied to how many voters they were able to "peel off" from Republicans, and I don't see how we have any way of knowing that until the next election.
