Eric Swalwell: Republicans have chosen the files. I am choosing the food. End the shutdown.

Foodbanks are running low, little or no money on snap cards.
Something has to give--I do not call it caving. I can hold out but many can not.

It appears the choice is between no food, no healthcare and no economy.

People not getting SNAP, government employees not getting paid, many government services shut down, flights being delayed, etc. Those are real costs. It sucks, but the make up of Congress is what it is. I feel for the position and the difficult choices they are going to have to make either way.

The sad truth is we care more that government open and work than they do.

It may be we need to push people with Republican representatives to demand they keep the subsidies. That won't be easy, but we need more than Democrats to keep them. Even then, they need to be included in a must pass bill that Trump won't veto. Being in the minority stinks.

and am 100% against the dems folding for the bigger picture. There is also no guarantee that Trump won't stop funding SNAP anyway. He follows no laws.

but on this, he is completely wrong, giving in now guarantees that the ACA will cease to exist, embolden the repigs to push further and further on their America destroying agenda.

What would be next?
The elimination of Medicare? SNAP? Social Security?
You can bet the farm that's what would happen if we give up now.

Call your Senators and let them know, respectfully, that there is no good faith negotiations with the repigs, they will happily screw us every chance they get and laugh all the way to the bank.

without health coverage or utterly impoverished by it. And those people will remember the caving; many won't be showing up at the polls.

Yes, there are bad choices all around. This is a no-win situation.

the ‘shitty big beautiful bill’ so with this deal we lose the ACA AND SNAP!!!! This is one of the worst caves I have ever seen. The Congressman needs a primary.

It would also fully fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, once known as food stamps, through next September, a major flashpoint in the shutdown.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/senators-reach-tentative-deal-end-government-shutdown-rcna242401

And nobody who is saying that this will cost the US the ACA has explained how keeping the government shut down was going to save it. Republicans weren't going to give in on that and if the government is shut down, there's no subsidies to provide anyway. What is your solution that would have worked? Because the shutdown wasn't working. Sometimes every choice sucks, but sticking with a strategy that wasn't moving anything forward wasn't going to make it better magically.

Not necessarily referring to a vote on the rumored “cave” by the Dems? I think he might be saying Johnson refuses to negotiate because he would have to deal with the Epstein file vote and doesn’t care if people starve to keep that vote from happening.
