So Democrats get:

1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays

2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail

3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts

Those all seem like wins for the GOP.

So what is the point of the dumbs caving after 41 days? They should’ve just be the knee and let this BS go forward then said putting us through all this. Gavin was the only one really fighting with any real strategy. I’m so sick of the feckless moderates that have gotten us into this position by having no fight or balls. Republican lite is why Dems poll low and are so easy to slam.

They have killed our enthusiasm so once again, ripping from the jaws of victory to defeat once again.

Sun Nov 9, 2025, 09:21 PM
Sunday

Yes, Thune may get to "win" on his "no negotiation on subsidies until the shutdown is ended" but there may be some very meaningful concessions in the minibus the Republicans had to yield on to get a few Democrats on board.

Do I think they should hold out and kept hammering on how unreasonable the Republicans are being and keep pushing Shumer's one year extension as an incredibly reasonable compromise.

Absolutely YES. I think there was (and may still be) a good chance of prevailing. Republicans certainly wouldn't relish families getting together and getting REALLY pissed at them as they talk over the holidays.

The "imminent deal" could still fall apart.

Herding Democrats isn't easy. It's actually kind of amazing that Shumer has held them together this long. The last cloture vote on 11/4 was 54-44 so a couple people were out. The vote 9/30 was 55/45, so it would only take 5 defections.

One thing that strikes me as sort of interesting is that Thune's "deal" reportedly calls for at least 8 Democrats to agree to vote for cloture on the CR, so either he is expecting defections of his own, or he really, really, wants Democrats to look complicit in the bad things in the minibus (the vote wasn't even that close in the end, we only needed 60 to end debate and got 63).

It's also not clear to me if the defecting Dems are agreeing to Vote Yea only on cloture, or are they agreeing to vote Yea on the bills too?

I don't get it, I truly don't. Why weren't the Democratic leaders on every channel, in front of every microphone, making the point that the cost of extending the ACA tax subsidies for another year was less than the $40 billion to bail out Argentina?

It seems this would have been a no-brainer. And they could have included the almost 300 million for the stupid ballroom, shown pictures of Trump's marble and gold toilet...why didn't they do this?

Instead, they argued about how devastating losing healthcare coverage would be (duh), then caved!!!!!!!!!!

Look up "genuflect" and what the point of that is.

There's nothing "odd". The term means something similar in a different context and in the case of BLM, it was done in lieu of the idol worship of the flag that people were supposed to "pledge to" (versus pledging loyalty to the country and its Constitution). Note that the gesture was usually done during the "Pledge of Allegiance" and it wasn't just a "bend" of the knee to the ground, but an actual "kneel" with one knee on ground for a prolonged period.
