Folks, we need to have a little Civics #101 chat, because apparently the media no longer seems fit to explain to you whats happening.

So quick review:
The House passed a clean CR.
The senate has not passed anything.
The ONLY way this "deal" (taken with several grains of salt) ends the shutdown is if it's identical to the house version.

The alleged "cave" by the GOP staff regurgitators at Axios is nowhere close to the house bill.
Which means it forces Johnson to convene the house to vote on it.
This means among other things, that our awaiting reps can be seated.

But it also means that Senate Republicans betrayed Trump.
He wants them to pass the clean CR by nuclear option because he wrongly thinks he'll be able to end mail in voting.
But regardless, it means the Senate betrayed him.
So what happens?

Well, the likelihood of the House GOP passing this bill is between 0 and absolute 0. It would be seen as a betrayal by THEIR base.
But it does mean that Dems get the 218th discharge vote for the Epstein files.
It also means that Dems can filibuster the NEXT House bill.

(20,864 posts)Why would Dick Durbin (who is in leadership) be voting "yes" when he's already announced that this is his last term?
Also on the list are vulnerable Democratic senators, including Jon Ossoff. It all makes sense as strategy, but not as policy.

(315,774 posts)and evidently Ron Flipkowski(who I like but not this) is saying. ins essence that Sen Schumer is Voting No but "it doesn't wash his hands of it".. SO?

(20,864 posts)If the Senate passes anything other than exactly what the House sent it, the House will need to vote on whatever the Senate passes. If the House change what the Senate passed, it will have to go back to the Senate for a vote.
And when the House reconvenes, Johnson will have to seat Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva. She'll be the final vote on the discharge petition, and the Epstein files will be released.

(8,081 posts)The bill to release the files will presumably pass the House, but it would still need to be passed by the Senate and signed by Trump before it becomes law. So it's not going to get the files released. What it will do is force Republicans to all go on the record as either supporting Epstein's victims, or supporting the pedophiles named in the report. Believe me, many of them DON'T want to be forced to do this.

They literally fucked Democrats sideways on this and won everything they wanted with no strings attached.

(19,727 posts)This is all being too cute by half.
Its over, if Republicans are really determined to strip voters of their ACA subsidies, they can deal with those repercussions at the polls next November.
Democrats do all they could, but ultimately we are not in power, and we cant fight until the last federal worker has their house foreclosed on.
