(2,871 posts)Too many people were getting hurt, and we can still get a deal on the ACA. That is in everyone s interest

(37,980 posts)An agreement to vote down the road is not an agreement to extend subsidies. If there is no agreement now to extend them, there wont be one in December.
Yes people are hurting now, but a whole lot more will be hurting come january if we open without an agreement to extend the subsidies.

(1,142 posts)What was going to cause Republicans to extend the subsidies? Pretty clearly the shutdown wasn't doing so. If you wait until January to open all you've done is extend the SNAP shutdown, extend government employees not getting paid, no ACA subsidies, more flights cancelled. I have yet to see anybody explain what was suddenly going to change the math in Congress other than insisting that it would happen. What evidence is there that Republicans would have extended the subsidies tomorrow or next week?

To make it unbearable for the MAGA party to be at fault for so much misery.
Are you kidding me? The rank and file Dems are SCREAMING for fighters. WTAF?
This is a fight for our DEMOCRACY. All norms are GONE.

(39,444 posts)It can happen as early as next year. In the meantime we have to make concessions and help as many Americans as possible. That is always our goal. The careers and successes of individual Democratic leaders don't matter, what matters is all of us working together to help more Americans get through this awful crisis.
When the MAGAs are out, when Chump is gone, we can talk about other stuff. We have to fix this mess, as soon as possible.

(37,980 posts)Give them time to see the increases and put pressure on the Republicans in Congress.
They are far more likely to extend the subsidies when there is not only the pressure of their own constituents - but also the pressure of the subsidies.

(60,671 posts)is because a huge number of Republicans are impacted. They are already seeing the numbers. For some, they have counted on this for over a decade.

(60,671 posts)Why would holding out longer make the Republicans :cave'. The key word in your post is LEVERAGE. The problem is that we don't have it. The fantastic election results, at this point, did not lead to enough Republicans willing to concede that funding.

(3,235 posts)STRIKE. Let them(MAGA party) feel the heat. Im not wealthy. Im not part of the 1%. I will feel this pain too. But our survival as a democratic country depends on standing firm.
It's fight time.
