(11,468 posts)He is the leader of the Senate Democratic Caucus. If it was done against his wishes than he has lost control of his caucus and should resign.
If it was with his permission then he lied to everyone and can no longer be trusted after doing this twice in a row. He should resign.

(57,135 posts)His job is to keep the caucus in line. Either he approved of it or is an extremely ineffective Minority Leader.

"The only thing that would make sense about caving right now [View all]
with the kind of "no deal" deal to end the shutdown that is being circulated is something unseemly. Politicians are more in the grasp of monied interests now than they have ever been, thanks to Citizens United. Could the powerful benefactors of Democrats have grown so nervous by the winds of change afoot since Tuesday that they want to quell them? Could they have called in markers or used pressure to convince Democrats into this self-destructive course?"

(6,480 posts)committee posts, or support for primary challengers?
Somehow I think Nancy Pelosi would have kept her people in line.
Schumer was either complicit in his giving the ok for them to vote this way or he is the most feckless useless leader the Dems could have. Neither is a winning strategy for our future.

(130,849 posts)WASHINGTON (AP) The Senate took the first step to end the government shutdown on Sunday after a group of moderate Democrats agreed to proceed without a guaranteed extension of health care subsidies, angering many in their caucus who say Americans want them to continue the fight.
-snip-
The agreement does not guarantee the health care subsidies will be extended, as Democrats have demanded for almost six weeks. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York voted against moving ahead with the package, along with all but eight of his Democratic colleagues.
A group of three former governors New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, New Hampshire Sen. Maggie Hassan and Independent Sen. Angus King of Maine broke the six-week stalemate on Sunday when they agreed to vote to advance three bipartisan annual spending bills and extend the rest of government funding until late January in exchange for a mid-December vote on extending the health care tax credits.
-snip-
In addition to Shaheen, King and Hassan, Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, home to tens of thousands of federal workers, also voted in favor of moving forward on the agreement. Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Democrat, Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman and Nevada Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen also voted yes.
