the GQP claiming victory and claiming the capitulation is obvious evidence that the fault for any bad things that happened during the shutdown is squarely put on the Democrats. The media is going to bury us with this capitulation. If someone wants to believe that the supposed "promise" of a vote on extending the ACA subsidies is something that won't be screwed with then I'm sorry but that someone is hopelessly naive. What promise or "deal" has the GQP/MAGA made with Democrats that they lived up to without screwing around or negating it entirely? But supposedly this time will be different?
So when they screw with even that thin "promise" and fail to live up to promises about rehiring workers and back pay what then? More strongly worded letters? Years from now it will be written that American democracy didn't die from violent overthrow. It expired crying out with outstretched arms for people to fight for it and defend it while it was under attack and being beaten mercilessly and the people who were most able to fight turned and surrendered. Historians will write about "deals" and "promises" that never came to be. Right before they write the part about people dying from lack of healthcare.

(30,625 posts)Magats will claim Democrats caused the shutdown and Republicans opened it back up, only 10 Democrats voted to open it up.
That will be the narrative. Meanwhile millions will eventually lose our healthcare, or we will get shit coverage.
Project 2025 wants to kill unwashed Americans.

The only way to win with a performance like this is as a "not these current motherfuckers" vote -- which only lasts one cycle because next time one is the incumbent and gets ousted by the same principle.

And at the moment, it is not looking good.
Reporting claimed Thune wasn't going to put it to a vote until he had eight Dems on board to vote yes.
