Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), one of the eight moderate Senate Democrats that had agreed to cooperate with Republicans and cave in the government shutdown fight, defended her decision Monday by insisting that GOP leaderships promise to hold a vote on extending health care subsidies was sufficient to warrant crossing her partys leadership.
Appearing on Fox News, Shaheen was asked if she had any doubts that the Senate which has yet to vote on a spending bill that would end the shutdown may fail to ultimately reopen the government given the pressure on Senate Democrats to hold firm in their demands to secure funding for health care subsidies.
No, I don't worry about that because I think people are looking at the millions of Americans who have been affected by this shutdown, the people who are struggling to get food, Shaheen said.

I wonder if she sat down and listened to the Roosevelt 1933 speech about fear and put her self completely in that moment of a man with polio........
I am asking myself how much does she get from taxpayers in paid pensions of up to 80% of her yearly earnings and paid health care that she gets when she retires when looking in the mirror, along with the other 7 not up for re-election/retiring...........and has one commentator in the piece / article said..........Kabuki Theater

It was the closest I have heard anyone come close to echoing what I consider the real problem is behind the shut down.
Rescission.
If Tim Kaine voted for cloture on the continuing resolution, I suppose he must think a deal is a deal.
At least that John Thune will allow an up-or-down vote on ACA subsidies.

(348 posts)He (Schumer), and several UN-named others, wanted to vote YES on this,
but didn't want to take the political Heat. For example, Sen Tim Kaine is
5 years away from his next election. Sen. Mark Warner (voted NO) is up
for election in 2026...Sen's Durbin & Shaheen (YES)are retiring.
The whole scummy deal, and the cowardly vote maneuvering- Stinks to
High Heaven!!
