They would have extended the shutdown indefinitely. Starve people through the holidays. Trump would ignore court rulings like usual.
Proof again that Republicans will. not. negotiate. This is the party that once claimed “bipartisanship is date rape.” This is a major disappointment but we can’t just throw in the towel and let them win the midterms. We need to remind people that Republicans were going to extreme lengths to STARVE PEOPLE rather than give a little on the healthcare issue. They’d rather throw thousands out of work, refuse to pay the ones still working, and disrupt vital air travel rather than help people. We have to turn this disappointment around and show the people who Republicans really are. In their minds, working together to help Americans is date rape.

And now there will be many more disaffected democrats.

They have shot us all in the foot.

When next shut down comes in January what the hell will we cave on then? They will have some nasty plan all ready for us.

Fight them now or fight them later with even more at stake because they know we cave!

and I always vote for Democrats.

However, my enthusiasm has gone to rock bottom....I'll go and vote, but it feels empty, because now I see that our party, at the top, doesn't give a single fuck about those of us who aren't either donors or consultants.

6. Define winning

I assume you mean in public opinion, but that wasn't overwhelmingly in our favor. We weren't winning in Congress which is the relevant metric. The people going without pay, without SNAP, without access to government services weren't winning. We were no closer to getting the subsidies restored.

Without changing the makeup of Congress which won't meaningfully happen until the November 2026 elections, how does winning public opinion by a slight edge translate into votes?

We were not the ones in charge of this shit show. But we caved for what? a loss of democracy and giving them more power to do shitty things to people?
