General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe GOP soured on Cawthorn and now Mace. It's time for Democrats to do the same with John Fetterman.
The GOP eventually rejected figures like Cawthorn and now they're targeting Nancy Mace because their behavior became a liability to the party. Democrats should recognize that John Fetterman has reached the same point. His positions and rhetoric now contradict the values and priorities his party claims to stand for. This should have also should have happened to Krysten Sinema and Tulsi Gabbard.
The Democratic party needs to do a better job vetting potential candidates and rid itself of conservative trolls like the ones mentioned above.

(3,970 posts)strategies. We should rate them on policy. Fetterman's economic policies are in line with AOC and Bernie Sanders. Fetterman is in a swing state. If he gets primaried, it would probably be by a moderate Democrat. Whoever wins that battle would be weakened because of it meaning the Republican would be more likely to win. Is this worth losing a Senate seat?

(600 posts)John Fetterman calls the shutdown a failure, as a handful of Democrats join Republicans to reopen government
John Fetterman has consistently voted with Republican colleagues to reopen the government as his Democratic colleagues advocate for health care subsidies.
Sen. John Fetterman called the shutdown a failure after voting to reopen the government.
The Pennsylvania Democrat described himself as a consistent voice against the shutdown.
The shutdown has been longer than any in history. But on Sunday night, the Senate advanced a bill that had been previously passed by the House to fund the federal government through the end of January.
Fetterman was one of three Democratic caucus members who voted to reopen the shutdown from the start of the shutdown as the vast majority of his Democratic colleagues fought to negotiate health care subsidies in the stopgap bill.
On Sunday, he was joined by seven Democrat colleagues who voted for the Republican bill, which passed 60 to 40 meeting the Senates 60-vote threshold, which had eluded lawmakers for weeks.
Im sorry to our military, SNAP recipients, gov workers, and Capitol Police who havent been paid in weeks, Fetterman said in a post on X. It shouldve never come to this.
This was a failure, he added.
