Robert Reich: Democrats held the cards -- and folded for no reason.

Democrats were overwhelmingly united on their shutdown demands.

Americans understood that Trump and Republicans were to blame.

Voters made it known last Tuesday that they'll elect leaders who stand up to Trump.

Democrats held the cards — and folded for no reason.

I'm so confused

They did the shutdown to protect ACA subsidies.
Fed workers and SNAP recipients start losing out
So they gave in and said okay open the government, without protecting the ACA subsidies

Then what was the point?

After all the huge victories of last Tuesday, this is a gut punch to those who work for just causes and candidates. It is a gut punch to voters and volunteers.
