THEY were never going to vote on this. How was the shutdown helping? They weren’t going to vote on it to end the shutdown and they weren’t going ti do it if the gov is open. The only difference is now the dems cannot be tied to it and ATC’s and other fed workers might get paid. Shutdowns only work if the other side gives a shit if the gov shuts down.

Not only were the Dems fighting (which the majority of the party wants them to do), they were fighting for the right thing, and the Repubs were being punished for it both at the ballot box and in public opinion.

The vote was meaningless. Thats the whole point of this. Getting a vote was never the goal, never worth a moments consideration. Getting the thing done was the point. Not holding some theatrics.

The reasoning of those Democrats who caved was naive at best. Considering the make up of congress there was no way that we could get the thing done in reality especially if Trump was needed to sign off on it.

What we need to do going forward it to publicize the callousness of the Republican party and Trump. Emphasize the suffering of Americans at their hands. You know those heart-rending ASPCA ads? Stuff like that - but about people.... hell, animals too.
The ads should start right now.

We need to strategize about how to go forward, not bemoan the actions of a handful of Senators, no matter how we feel personally about them. We need to focus and stay the course and not let a setback stop us.

Being angry doesn't really help the cause - not unless is serve to motivate the base to fight even harder.

I do want to impose a purity test on all Democratic leaders - NOT one based on particular positions on any substantive issue - but rather on their willingness to fight this fascist regime using every tool and tactic available. If someone is either too naive or myopic to trust this regime, or if they just long for those "good old days" when Congress got along like a club, they have no place leading this party.
