The deal and the Pew Research Survey of October 2025

A Year Ahead of the Midterms, Americans’ Dim Views of Both Parties
…Democrats’ frustration with their own party is up sharply, as many say it hasn’t pushed back hard enough against Trump and the GOP. Frustration runs particularly high among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, who are frustrated not just with Republicans – who control the White House and both chambers of Congress – but with their own party:

67% of Democrats say their own party makes them feel frustrated in the September survey – far higher than the roughly half who said this in 2021 and 2019.

Democrats’ frustration with their party centers on the feeling that it is not pushing back hard enough against Trump and his administration. About four-in-ten frustrated Democrats (41%) describe this as the main source of their frustration. Many other answers hit on related themes: 13% offer criticisms of the Democratic Party’s leadership, while 10% point to a lack of a cohesive message or agenda.

This survey was taken before the shutdown and Tuesday’s election. I imagine this high number of dissatisfaction and frustration will climb after the “deal”. Elections are won on emotions and enthusiasm. On Tuesday the shutdown fight had us with the wind at our sails. We were fighting Trump. Elections are not won by us who follow the party but the many who come out only when motivated to do so. I feel this deal has also emboldened the worst in the GOP to push Democrats in the Senate around even more.I also believe the level of frustration will rise too.
I believe the GOP will have a bogus health plan to counter the impending death of Obamacare. It will probably involve a cash give away like TSF said.
I sure hope our party has an answer to that and a better plan health plan (like universal healthcare) to fight the rethugs.
