Can someone please enlighten me?

For over a month, I recall the objections to any statements about the Democrats shutting down the government. I seem to recall it was the Republicans that we were blaming for refusing to discuss the ACA.

But now I am reading multiple threads asking why did Democrats shut down the government just to give in for no gain?
Why the sudden reversal of responsibility?

was getting R’s to come and negotiate. And then after 40 days of the shutdown, the Dems gave in without getting anything out of it. And that’s the crux. If the Dems held out and got some concessions for the ACA, you could point to how the shutdown ultimately benefited Americans. But instead, people lost paychecks and SNAP and people still are going to lose their subsidies.Maybe it was always going to end up this way, but if that’s the case, the length of the shutdown seems to be a major miscalculation.

The R's could have agreed to hold a vote on ACA earlier, but DJT stopped Thune from doing that.
