It should be startling to hear the president of the United States described as looking like a glazed ham with deep vein thrombosis. Let alone on a mainstream talk show like Jimmy Kimmel Live!. But this recent punchline (deriding Trumps medical expertise after the Tylenol saga) is revealing of the combative climate currently engulfing the US TV landscape. In these feverish times, a joke like this has become not only acceptable but unexceptional.
Its also an indication of just how punchy the show has become since returning from a week-long suspension in September. Kimmel and his writers have roared back with a vengeance and been relentless in their mockery of the countrys commander-in-chief.
Over the past seven weeks, nothing has seemed off-limits: Trumps appearance and behaviour; his family and associates; his policies and their impact. And while the president might wish that the troublesome question of the Epstein files would go away, Kimmel and co. are doing everything they can to keep it on the radar.
If there was any degree of caution or reticence before the shows removal and reinstatement, its been abandoned. Kimmel and his writers are now off the leash.

(1,041 posts)Jimmy Kimmel was one of the defenders of ACA when Sen. Cassidy and others tried to repeal the ACA in 2017.
Cassidy was one of the co-sponsors of the repeal.
He tried to drag Jimmy Kimmel into the ACA repeal with a so-called Jimmy Kimmel test.
Kimmel interpreted the test as the following:
None of the GOP leaders follow this test.
Why does the GOP follow a narcissist who is both stupid and cruel.
There was talk over the weekend of repealing ACA and making payments to consumers directly.
Cassidy was on board with this also.
Let him try to drag Jimmy Kimmel into this again.

(6,075 posts)in his skewering of tRump every night. I make it a point to watch his monologue if nothing else. It makes me laugh and is a great stress reliever. He does not spare others in the administration who deserve to be zapped with his humorous barbs.
I recall Jimmy talking about his young son needing cardiac surgery years ago to save his life. He was so grateful for the help & health care his family got and he had tears in his eyes talking about it. So he is a fierce spokesman for health care. He knows first hand that without good health care, his son might not have survived. But he has money and resources. He wants the same for every citizen. tRump is a direct threat to that so Kimmel will be relentless in his criticism. I applaud him.

As a matter of fact, society doesn't excoriate him enough, IMO.
