If there are, please tell me what it is that causes some Democrats to constantly snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. First, let's rewind the tape a few days to get a true sense of what can only be described as self-destructive behavior on a mass scale.
All the talk by the end of election day last Tuesday was how the republicans seemed to be in complete disarray as a party following the clean sweep of Democratic victories. In addition, polls were indicating that the American people were growing increasingly angry over the government shutdown and were shifting blaming to Trump and the reTHugs exclusively for the impasse. As a party, we seemingly had something we hadn't had since the Orange Fool oozed his way back into the WH last November: Forward momentum.
So what happens? How does the week end?...With Trump triumphantly sticking his flabby chest out over what's arguably his greatest domestic victory yet. He never negotiated. He wouldn't compromise. He never blinked..... all while senate Democrats prove they can't keep their promises and lack the stomach to truly fight a tyrant in the name of the American people and for principles they claim are of paramount importance to them.....and that's how the media is spinning it and that's what they're running with.
So what is it causes some of us seek bad endings like this? Is it self-loathing? Some misplaced sense of guilt that kicks in whenever we sense we have an advantage? Please enlighten me. I'm obviously not hip to basic gestalt here.

(18,619 posts)how many people starve, lose their job, or lose their home. They dont care if Congress never reopens as they have ceded their power to their master. This was the only humane solution.

That's why it was imperative for senate Democrats to hold the line no matter what once the fight began in earnest. There are no moral victories here. They just look like weak, spineless, gelatinous goop with no principles...at least none they're willing to actually fight for.
The American people deserved better than this. We must be better than this.

(10,604 posts)Doubt if his glory will last a day as his party is having a civil war over America First with the top Republican podcasters being anti genocide and against giving our tax dollars to other countries. Candace Owens this week beat out Joe Rogan as top podcaster in the world. She recently apologized for telling her listeners to vote for Trump. She said hes not America first and his policies kill Palestinian children and Palestinian Christians. Its getting interesting as MTG, Tucker, Matt Gaetz, Massie, Candace, Rand Paul & Fuentes are anti genocide and want NO more money going to Israel, Ukraine, Argentina etc. Megan Kelly is kind of in the middle with Mark Levin, Josh Hammer and Ben Shapiro on the obviously losing Trump side.

The fact that Dump is now getting booed in public was all the more reason to continue fighting him and his shitty agenda without blinking or bending the knee. Where do you think our numbers are going to be after this latest cave-in, the stratosphere?
This can't continue. We have to do better than this.

I had a mentor like that long back. He was actually a genuinely decent man and a good scientist. It is never the creeps or sleazebags who are as challenging as nice and competent people with ideas or politics you just know are terrible.
Unlike the Zucks, Google/Palantir Creeps and Musks who really are just frauds, its more confusing when a person is competent and decent but has really huge cognitive biases (like taking these Si Valley creeps at face value as people who are invested in
well anything but greed).
Creeps are almost easier to deal with.
I have at times hated him as a sellout etc. But I dont think thats accurate. I think it is just different when you know the people who to many of us are mere abstractions and where we are largely good with their remaining as such.
Where you or I could see a life
-sucking blackhole of evil, people who actually know those creeps might have this mind warp where they see them as well meaning if flawed humans.
I am okay with nuance up to the point where I have to see these new Goebbels clones of Si Valley as reasonable or well meaning humans.
