NJ-07: Bennett hires Sherrill, Zwicker alum as campaign manager

Rebecca Bennett’s campaign for New Jersey’s 7th congressional district has a new campaign manager: Om Savargaonkar, who until last week was an advisor and coordinated campaign director for Mikie Sherrill’s successful campaign for governor.

Savargaonkar got his start in politics working for Tom Malinowski, helping Malinowski flip the 7th congressional district blue in 2018 and get re-elected in 2020. (Malinowski lost in 2022, and is now running in a special election for Sherrill’s neighboring House seat.)

In 2021, Savargaonkar worked on Sam Joshi’s campaign for mayor of Edison and on 16th legislative district Democrats’ campaign to turn Jack Ciattarelli’s old legislative district blue, winning both races. And in 2023, he managed the re-election campaign of 16th district State Sen. Andrew Zwicker (D-South Brunswick) and his running mates, earning him a nod as “Campaign Manager of the Year” in the New Jersey Globe’s 2023 Year in Review; Zwicker’s district heavily overlaps with the 7th congressional district.

Savargaonkar also has a number of national campaigns under his belt: former Oregon Rep. Kurt Schrader, now-Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin, and the Joe Biden and Kamala Harris campaigns of 2024. At the end of last year, Savargaonkar joined the Sherrill campaign en route to a 14-point statewide victory.
