The GOP and White House are "cackling with glee", calling Dem capitulation "losers and pussies"

For anyone wondering how this administration is going to spin Dems folding 🙄

“Multiple Trump aides and allies … reveled in the relief from a shutdown that even President Trump acknowledged was getting Republicans killed politically”.

Sheesh

now saying he doesn't know if or when he'll bring up the ACA extension, which means never, and when people can't afford health ins. anymore and the economy really, really tanks, people are going to point their fingers at the repukes, this is what Congressional Democrats should be hammering 24/7 far and wide.

The deal forces Johnson to pass the two Democratic funding bills that Senate Democrats have been trying to bring to the floor for months and that were finally passed last night, and a humiliated Trump will be made to sign them into law.

SNAP and the VA will be fully funded until the end of the fiscal year (September 30, 2026), with an increase in appropriations to SNAP.

Republicans lost the threat of hungry kids and abandoned veterans as a bargaining chip in the next go-around in January.

And the Epstein files will once again become the top story.

Sorry, but Hasan's amplification of Republican talking points, while hardly surprising, is incredibly misinformed.

Can't see the forest for the trees.

Getting ACA subsidies with republican control wasn't going to happen. Expecting otherwise is delusional.

You have the promise of a vote, which will fail, but in the end you either have republicans on record or they dont have the vote and you hammer them with it. It will also cause internal strife with folks like MTG.

You also have snap funded, as you said and plenty of chances is to revisit the fight.

Trumps poll numbers were crished during it as well, and those won't recover just from it ending.

They shut down the government for 40 days, the longest shutdown ever. They couldn't keep it shut down forever. Will people lose Healthcare? Yes. Will people die? Yes. Those things were decided when Republicans took power, nothing democrats could do to stop it.

That statement alone tells me so much.

Trump does not feel anything. Nada. Zip. Zilch. So, he does not know HOW TO BE humiliated. He's a psychopath bully. He will sign bills and take full credit for it all.

(that had been stuck in committee for months) that not only secures SNAP until the end of the fiscal year, but also increases its funding?

All for the guy who was holding out for a "clean CR".

He doesn't know how to be humiliated, so he (himself) won't feel humiliation, and his followers are still going to see this as a victory for him. He will smile at the cameras and take credit for ending the shutdown. And the Average Joe will probably buy it.

Meanwhile, this action has pissed off many Democratic voters (like myself) and taken away the momentum that had been gained by last weeks elections (in my opinion, of course). But the all around mood and the polls reflect that as well. Many (if not most) are not happy about the eight Senators caving.

What does NB mean?

It's usually the media who is shaping the message. I care what the voters are hearing and believing, and I think it' pretty much the general consensus that Democrats need to do better and work harder on their messaging. I sincerely hope that they will begin to do that in a forceful and clear manner.

or that Trump's failure to secure a clean CR counts as a victory for him, especially not when he will be forced to sign Democratic
appropriations bills that guarantee funds to hungry kids and veterans into law.

Given what I have been reading on social media, it is true that some people absolutely suck at messaging and need to work harder not to amplify Republican and anti-Democratic Party talking points. They also need to take steps to be better informed.

--------------------------------------

NB is the Latin nota bene. It's used to emphasize something important.

Cui bono is also a Latin phrase commonly used. It means, "who benefits".

So who benefits from Republican talking points being amplified in liberal spaces?

Cui bono?

Not Democrats.

Actually, I think shutting the govt down was a stupid dem gamble that didn't pay off. IDK where they got the idea the repubs would agree to extend the ACA tax credits, but when you use the only leverage you have, which was shutting the govt down, then IMO they should have held strong & not caved. Has Trump released all the SNAP benefits? If not, then WTF?

When I was a kid & a young adult I thought the dems were the smart party. Now? I'm kind of embarrassed at how badly we've been played the past 45 years. I have hope in the younger gen dems who aren't burdened by sentimental & kind feelings toward their long-time colleagues.

Jeffries says Democrats will offer amendment to extend health care tax credits for 3 years
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told reporters that Democrats will offer an amendment during the House Rules Committee meeting to extend the expiring health care tax credits for three years.

"House Republicans, welcome back from your taxpayer-funded seven-week vacation," the New York Democrat said ahead of the meeting. "You now have an opportunity to actually take some action in an area of this health care crisis by working with Democrats before the Rules Committee this evening to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits."

Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva, an Arizona Democrat, will be sworn in at 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to House Speaker Mike Johnson's office.

The House is expected to begin voting on the funding bill to reopen the government soon after that.

Grijalva's swearing-in will not affect the two-vote margin Republicans currently hold.

She will be the decisive signature on a petition to force a vote on releasing files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
