Sally Kirkland, 'Bruce Almighty' and 'The Sting' actress, dies at 84
Sally Kirkland, an icy blonde actress known for her roles in "The Sting" and "Anna," which earned her an Oscar nod, has reportedly died. She was 84.
Kirkland, a onetime member of Andy Warhol's factory, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, in hospice in Palm Springs, California, her representative, Michael Greene, told Variety and the Associated Press. According to a GoFundMe page raising money for her medical care, Kirkland suffered a fall in October, which resulted in injuries to both her ribs and foot. She was then transferred to a care facility for 24/7 help.
The same GoFundMe says Kirkland lost the bulk of the wealth she had earned during her career heyday due to "bad advice from a financial advisor-business manager in 2007."
Kirkland, a prolific actress who appeared in hundreds of titles over the course of her career, earned critical acclaim in 1987 for her performance in "Anna," playing a Czech actress on the precipice of career decline who mentors a younger star. An independent movie without much buzz, "Anna" was ultimately propelled to Hollywood heights by a homegrown campaign, nabbing Kirkland an Oscar best actress nomination and the Golden Globe Award for best actress in a motion picture drama.
