Senate Republicans on Monday night blocked a Democratic attempt to extend Affordable Care Act subsidiesa move that would have made health care more affordable for tens of millions of Americans.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) offered an amendment to the government funding bill that passed Monday evening that would have extended ACA subsidies for one year. The one year extension sought to ensure that Americans would avoid seeing more than double-digit price increases in their insurance premiums, while giving Congress time to come up with a permanent solution to health care affordability.
All 47 Senate Democrats voted for the amendment. But it failed because every single Senate Republican voted against extending the subsidies.
My Republican colleagues sent a clear, unmistakable message that they are okay with jacking up health care costs on 22 million Americans. Im not, and I am going to keep fighting to stop these massive health care price increases that Wisconsin families are staring down, Baldwin said in a news release after her amendment failed.

EDIT-I think there is some confusion in the replies. This was not the vote to end the shutdown, this was an amendment afterwards. I believe the story is correct (but I could be wrong LOL)

(31,423 posts)to force these sociopaths to negotiate. Something that required a 60 vote margin to pass.
The Democrats could withhold their votes until the republicans actually address the issue.
Don't worry Tammy, they PROMISED to hold another vote on this topic sometime real soon now... a pinky promise. And then they will vote to extend those subsidies for a year... unlike voting for it NOW. Because... something or other.

(721 posts)Due to the new regulations on hemp farmers. He would have voted yes if they changed the language regarding these regulations. But his admendment was voted down by an overwhelming bipartisan majority.
So yeah all Republicans could care less about our Healthcare.
