A female Navy officer was about to be given a historic role overseeing elite Navy SEALs before Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth allegedly stepped in, a new report claims.
The unnamed officer was set to be the first woman in a Naval Special Warfare command after becoming the first woman to serve with SEAL Team Six as troop commander.
A formal ceremony celebrating the new role was scheduled for last July, but two weeks before the event, her command was canceled, multiple sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
There was speculation in the Naval Special Warfare community that the command was likely canceled by Hegseth because he didnt want a woman in a role that is closely aligned with recruiting Navy SEALs and other elite roles.

I'm sure Kegbreath is jealous because he could never qualify as a Navy Seal.

(14,845 posts)Several Retired Navy co-workers who are basically cynical "Do Your Job" types regularly call him Kegsbreath, which surprised the hell out of me. You don't get that sort of disdain from retired E-9's or O4 + officers...

(27,294 posts)Confirmed removals from top leadership positions include:
Adm. Linda Fagan: The first female commandant of the Coast Guard, she was fired hours after President Trump's inauguration in January 2025.
Adm. Lisa Franchetti: The first female Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), she was ousted in February 2025.
Vice Adm. Shoshana Chatfield: The Navy's top officer at NATO headquarters, she was dismissed in April 2025. She had previously been the first woman to lead the U.S. Naval War College.
Lt. Gen. Jennifer Short: The senior military assistant to the Secretary of Defense, she was removed without explanation at the same time as Adm. Franchetti.
Rear Adm. Yvette Davids: The first woman to lead the U.S. Naval Academy, she was reassigned from her post well short of her typical three-year tenure.
An unnamed Navy Captain, the first woman to serve as a troop commander with the elite SEAL Team Six, was reportedly pushed out of the military and blocked from a historic command role.
These removals have been widely reported as a "purge" of female leaders, a trend that began with the new administration's focus on warfighting and an end to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the military.

(6,068 posts)to prove you have the mettle to lead under intense stress and physical duress. Hegseth was a National Guard infantry officer and did not complete Ranger School. But he struts around like he's John Fuckin Rambo or some shit and everybody knows he's a loser and a poser. That spectacle of him addressing the flag officers was such a joke. I'd go to war with this female Navy officer but not cowardly fuck-up Hegseth. Every day I stand in utter disbelief at this maladministration of the USA.

I was incredulous the first time. I am gobsmacked that enough Americans were/are stupid enough to do this a second time.
