President Donald Trump has threatened to deploy troops to Chicago over a distressed shopping center that does not exist.
The Miracle Mile Shopping Center in Chicago, once considered our Nations BEST, now has a more than 28% vacancy factor, and is ready to call it quits unless something is done about the murder and crime, which is prevalent throughout the City, the 79-year-old president raged in a Truth Social post just past midnight on Tuesday.
CALL IN THE TROOPS, FAST, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE! he added.
There is no Miracle Mile Shopping Center in Illinois largest city. While there are shopping districts with that name in California, Florida, New York, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, it would not appear the president plans to stage a military intervention in Chicago by dispatching personnel to other cities between 800 and 2,000 miles away.

Soldier tells him that they are 'locked into countdown', 50 minutes to "nuclear fucking war!"
Was set in L.A., thus the title...
Movie trailer:
Wasn't a happy movie, to say the least--- and the main characters wasted too much time
getting the hell out of LA....
Long review:
Purportedly free on Pluto.tv and Tubi, if I recall correctly...
I saw this in the late '80s, and had it on VHS tape---
but it wasn't a movie I wanted to watch too many times,
unless I was in a particularly dark mood.... fair warning. No happy ending here.
So "Forget everything you just heard--- and go back to sleep. (click) "

(3,112 posts)That's an obscure one for sure...I think it was in the theaters for about a week! Miracle Mile is not a bad film; it just didn't have the nice, tidy, happy Hollywood ending that was so typical of youth-oriented movies in the '80s. IIRC, Anthony Edwards fought to be cast as the protagonist after reading the script.

(3,989 posts)late at night.... and could not stop watching....
spent most of the film screaming for the main characters to
'get the fuck out of LA' and stop wasting time---
but I fancied myself something of a 'survivalist' at the time,
and was extremely frustrated about all the time they were wasting---
In that period, near the end of Reagan's second term,
there were 'standing orders' in my house
about jumping into the car and driving north 'as fast as you can'---
(my house was on the northern edge of Michigan's capital city---
but, probably would have only prolonged the inevitable,
in such an instance....)

(6,796 posts)New York's "Miracle Mile" is a stretch of Northern Boulevard in Nassau County (but fairly close to Northern Queens). Indeed, I think it was in George Santos' mixed Nassau-Queens district. Might be wrong about that, but it's close if not in. It is dotted with luxury stores because the area is fairly rich. It also used to have big department stores (I seem to recall a Filene's Basement and a Lord & Taylor back in the day)
Chicago's Magnificent Mile is a stretch of Michigan Avenue running from about Oak Street Beach on its north end to the bridges over the Chicago River at the south. It includes a number of landmarks, including the John Hancock Tower, the old Water Tower, and Water Tower Place, which is one of the several malls in the area. Michigan Avenue is also dotted with many luxury stores and the whole place is certainly a tourist standard for visits to Chicago.
In Trump's defense, it is fairly common for New Yorkers in Chicago to confuse the two expressions.
What Trump is referring to is the occasional "teen takeovers" on Michigan Avenue - this is when large numbers of teens, usually from the South Side (read: black) suddenly materialize in areas like River North, Millenium Park, or, yes, the Magnificent Mile. They are rowdy, traveling in large numbers (sometimes several hundred) and some of them are certainly intent on shoplifting and other crimes. Many are just there for the fun, it should be added. This is, of course, the nightmare scenario in Trump/MAGA mythology: the luxury "white area" suddenly beset by young black kids! So Trump wants to highlight the teen takeovers and wants Fox to show you images of them. Black Kids Run Riot in front of Ferragamo and Tiffany's, oh no!
The idea that these takeovers (which have largely subsided anyway) are a problem that require troop deployments is, of course, completely insane.
