Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of John F. Kennedy, said he would run for the congressional seat being vacated by Representative Jerrold Nadler, joining the crowded Democratic primary in an influential New York City district and continuing his familys legacy in electoral politics.
Mr. Schlossberg, 32, is perhaps best known as a social-media political commentator and provocateur who has frequently weighed in on national issues. He shared the news of his campaign in an email to supporters on Tuesday night.
In an interview earlier on Tuesday, he said he felt the Democratic Party needed more voices to push back on perceived abuses of power by President Trump and his allies, arguing that a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives was the only way to restore democratic norms.
There is nothing our party cant do to address costs of living, corruption and the constitutional crisis that were in, he said. But without the control of Congress, theres almost nothing that we can do.

Schlossbergs primary qualifications seem to be that hes JFKs grandson and he bears a resemblance to his late uncle JFK Jr. I am so done with the dynastic children of privilege who think they are owed a place at the political table by virtue of their name. Schlossberg is a political commentator who states the obvious. Let me know when he does something of consequence.

(2,465 posts)His name could be Joe Schmo and dude could work for any law firm in the country. This is the kind of serious brainpower we should want to put to work for the people. We should consider ourselves lucky to have him on our side.

(2,310 posts)Education has nothing to do with experience. Ive known plenty of PhDs who may have been brilliant in their area of expertise but were hopelessly lost in the real world. Similarly, Schlossberg may be a brilliant lawyer (with no experience that I know of), but that does not automatically make him a viable candidate for the U.S. Senate.
Frankly, I dont know a whole lot about Schlossberg, but the few videos Ive seen of him made him look like an immature goofball. What really bothers me, however, is the assumption that a scion of a historic political family is given a leg up to aspire to political office irrespective of their personal qualifications. Maybe Schlossberg would be great, but he needs to prove it.

(6,106 posts)You say you don't know much about him but then you criticize him. We don't get to pick the family we're born into. He seems to connect well with people his age.
And I'm not sure what qualifies someone to hold political office, other than meeting age, citizenship and in some cases residency requirements.
But he'll have to do the leg work and get the votes just like everyone else.

(2,810 posts)He's running for Nadler's seat.
It's safe blue district so if he gets the nomination he'll win the election.
I don't totally object to the lack of elected experience. After all I supported AOC and she had lees experience than Schlossberg does.
The difference is AOC had to organize and fight against entrenched power to get the nomination. Even then she didn't get a lot of support from the party.
Schlossberg is going into this on easy mode. We won't know his metal till he's been in office.
Still the odds are he'll do OK if he does win.
