To Victory Day for WW1 and May 8 Victory Day for WWII thats how they do it in Europe, he says. Does he not understand that our Veterans Day is set aside to honor all veterans for their service to the country and we have a Memorial Day set aside to honor our fallen service members? What am I missing here?

(128,249 posts)It was created to honor the war dead of the allied nations following the Armistice on 11/11/1918, and it is observed in the UK, France, and several other countries as well as the US. It was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor US war dead and living veterans. (I'm so old I can remember when my parents still called it Armistice Day). But the US doesn't own it, and it was never intended to celebrate war victories.

(24,741 posts)In 1954, I was in first grade so its always been Veterans Day for me. On this day honoring our veterans of all services and conflicts, TSF proclaims to change our traditions concerning our Vets. A draft dodger wanting to rename our Days of remembering is an insult, I should think.
