That's a really intense showing at that latitude!

The most intense Auroras I've ever seen were incredible. One was visible in New Mexico, where I was at sunset, the sky was already red at dusk. I was heading to Chicago so I drove from Santa Rosa to someplace in central Kansas when I had to just pull over, wake up my husband and get him to drive because I wasn't able to watch the road so well because I was so distracted by the Aurora.

Another, I think the same year, was in southern Wisconsin where I left a fully lit hospital and parking lot lights and could see it before I got into the dark. All my alarms went off in my senses and I went back into the building and asked a security guy to walk me to my car, it was around 1am. He was skeptical at first but when I showed him the sky, he was amazed and happily escorted me. Took his time walking back. I was parked around the block in a poorly lit place and felt that I was too distracted to be mindful of my surroundings. That one was so intense that I could hear it humming and see it move! The light display was something I've not seen since. That was in 1982.

but it was really beautiful in Iowa last night too.

My oldest son is traveling for work in Oklahoma. He was very sad not to have been able to see.

Even though I live in the nortwestern-most corner of Oregon, this time of year we're under heavy cloud cover 24/7.
