Trump Is Getting Weaker

And even some Republicans are finally grasping that it's a mistake to always stick by him
Steven Beschloss
Dec 08, 2025

The list is growing longer by the day. He can’t stay awake. He takes a fake peace prize from a kowtowing FIFA boss and behaves like he won a Nobel. He can’t figure out that affordability is a real issue. He thinks people believe him when he and his henchman murder people in the Caribbean and claim it’s because they want to stop drugs, not plunder Venezuelan oil. He ignores his promise to deport only hardened violent criminals, the worst of the worst, not mothers and teachers and regular people just trying to get by. He believes that all the gaudy gold crap in the Oval Office looks good and impresses people. He can’t see that embracing a rich, murderous Saudi prince reveals his desperation to be involved with opponents of democracy. He thinks people are so stupid they will endlessly tolerate his taking billions in corruption and grift. He abandons Ukraine and kowtows to the demands of Russia’s Putin and thinks he looks strong by association. He hides the bruises on his hands and the reasons for his MRIs. He pardons a former Honduran president who helped bring 400 tons of cocaine into the U.S. and doesn’t think twice about the hypocrisy. He illegally appoints amateurish incompetents to prosecute his perceived enemies, yet they keep failing. He calls for the execution of a senator, combat veteran and astronaut who urged military members to refuse illegal orders, not grasping that a man like this can’t be cowed or silenced. He still imagines that he can get away with covering up the Epstein files, as if the story of his alleged pedophilia will go away. He insists he had nothing to do with the second deadly attack on two survivors clinging to charred boat wreckage, assuming that distancing himself will protect him and his regime from war crime charges. He thinks he can slash Medicaid and oppose healthcare subsidies without consequence, even though millions of angry Americans will lose coverage or are terrified about rising premiums. He lies that his approval ratings are going up, despite nearly every poll showing that his unpopularity is at historic levels. He’s counting on John Roberts’ Supreme Court to stick with him on tariffs, yet the doubtful questions from his trusted justices suggest they may not bow this time to his ignoring the Constitution. He keeps repeating that food prices and inflation are going down, despite all evidence to the contrary. Did I mention that he imagines he can keep repeating affordability is a con job by Democrats and thinking that struggling Americans will be satisfied to go along with his lies?

Smelling failure
Yes, Donald Trump has kept nearly every Republican in line with constant threats and intimidation. But the mounting evidence of his growing weakness has begun to penetrate this monolithic response. That has included the nearly unanimous vote in the House and Senate to release the Epstein files, the Democratic electoral blowout across the country on Nov. 5, the single-digit win last week by a House Republican in a Tennessee district that Trump won by 22 points last year, the bipartisan demands for an investigation of possible war crimes for the deadly Caribbean attacks, the increasingly unavoidable reality of rising public anger against Trump’s unpopular policies and the obvious fact that affordability is a major issue that cuts across party lines as average Americans struggle to make ends meet.

Many among us may have feared that a Trump dictatorship is unstoppable, but Trump’s accelerating weakness is a clear sign that this regime will not last. And the more Republicans smell failure and refuse to go down with this increasingly unpopular president, the more they will find strength in numbers and refuse to silently tolerate his every foolish action.

snip//

That’s why it’s critical to treat every day as if he’s growing stronger, not weaker; we should assume he will intensify his hateful agenda to hold onto power and save his own skin. That means we must keep applying pressure until he has been removed from office. To keep speaking out against his and his regime’s recklessness, lawlessness, corruption and violence. To keep reaching out to your representatives to let them know that you reject this regime’s hateful, anti-democratic behavior. To stay committed to public protest and other collective actions that can remind this terrorizing regime that they are engaged in a losing battle, no matter how much their mad king insists he’s all powerful.

I think there's an ulterior motive to his obsession on putting his name on everything, not to mention ordering in a peace prize like a pizza and considering a law that could get his current wife and their son deported:

I can honestly say I don't hate anyone and I can also say that I find it hard to use that word..I have reared my children to also be careful when using the hate word...BUT!! BUT!! if there was ever anyone or anything or any person that I could hate ? It would be the orange Man...I hate what he has done to our country and to America! I find it unbelievable that folks who I thought I knew to be kind and good and smart are committed to this Hateful man...I'm blown away of how such a hateful man has the support of so many.. If what is being said is true? Hopefully in 3 to 6 moths we will be rid of this hateful man.

Most train wrecks happen unexpectdly but we've been getting a years-long preview to this Disaster with Bronzer. We know it'll happen, but the "what straw breaks the GOP rank and file" question has gotten punted further and further down the field. They don't have much wiggle room left. Midterms are coming. People are pissed at them.

A part of me I don;t particularly like is really looking forward to watching their reactions when it finally happens.

I think (certainly I hope) the midterms won’t go well for Republicans. But until that point, Trump still wields enough sway with his followers to make things very difficult for anyone who speaks out against him. So a lot will stick in his camp and I believe a lot will lose because of that.

Then the chaos will be set loose within the Republicans. Trump will be doing and saying everything he can to pass the blame on why Republicans lost. But he will also be a completely lame duck both in his part and in general. The race for Republicans to rewrite their personal history and distance themselves from Trump will be on.

Up to and including Trump declaring martial law, siezing ballots to "ensure election integrity."

Look at how much damage this maladministration has done in less than 11 months. Economic pain is likely to get worse, especially as people lose health insurance or pay skyrocketing premiums. And he shows every indication of starting a real war with Venezuela.

All of which seems to indicate a blue wave next November, right?

The first rule of authoritarian regimes is they will do ANYTHING to maintain their grip on power. Trump was itching to use the military to shoot protestors in his first term. By next spring and summer, protests are likely to grow in size and anger. Violence is likely, possibly perpetrated by Proud Boys or other instigators. With martial law, free & fair elections are doubtful.

I hope that nightmare doesn't come to pass, but I've learned to be prepared for, if not expect, the worst.

Disappearing from view for many days at a time, his proxies doing more and more public speaking for him, etc.

They’ll keep propping him up until he completely keels over.

My concern is that his death will be a big public spectacle that causes the MAGAs to go completely rogue on a group of our citizens, scapegoating them and attacking them with an intent to kill en masse.

The people what run the show have a lot of their people in place. To do this, every norm there was was tossed to the wayside. Until elected Dems throw out their old playbook and adjust to the new norms, times will be rough.

Trump has consolidated more power in the last 10 months than any thought possible. The SCOTUS is about to make him king of the US government. He now has a good portion of the media in his pocket. In order to make any major business deal, the parties now must bribe Trump personally to get approval for the deal to go through.

The courts have not held. His corruption now goes on in the open and unchecked.

'Shuffling off this mortal coil': Analysis sees signs that Trump knows the end is near

www.rawstory.com/trump-mortal...

President Donald Trump has been sending signals that his health is fading — and he's losing his grip on power, according to an analyst.

The 79-year-old president has been dozing off in public meetings and showing other signs of diminished health, including mysterious bruising on his hand and swollen ankles. Foreign policy analyst David Rothkopf told The Daily Beast Podcast that Trump seemed aware of his eventual demise.

“They actually are serious issues because they are evidence that Donald Trump is at the end of his story,” Rothkopf said. “They are signs to the world that this is not a vigorous person. This is not a person whose biography is about their future. It’s about their past, and everybody can see that in Washington.”.....

Rothkopf also highlighted the president's increasingly frequent moves to rename institutions and buildings after himself — such as the U.S. Institute of Peace and the Kennedy Center — as another indicator that Trump is thinking about his legacy as his life comes to a close.

“If you’re watching his Band-Aids and you’re watching his cankles, the number of things he wants to name after himself, I think, is a good indicator of how ill he thinks he is, because this is just him looking for some legacy,” Rothkopf said. “It’s just him saying, ‘Well, that could make me immortal.’ Because I think he realizes that he is shuffling off this mortal coil sooner rather than later.
