NOTE to SNL: Do a bit on the Bari WEISS CBS/Dokoupil era of whiplash "both sides" (with MAGAt overall)
My rough memory is that SNL's impersonations of media news personalities began with Darrell HAMMOND "Doing" Tweety (Chris MATTHEWS, for the younguns) on SNL. Tweety's ego was massively stroked after the debut of HAMMOND's impersonation of him, either in 2001 or 2002. He said, "I am now an ICON: I have been 'done' on Saturday Night Live'." The funniest line in the debut was HAMMOND as Tweety, cracking himself up with, "For the ... FIFTY ... people who watch this show... (Hardball, not SNL). In the first few times HAMMOND featured him, the target was Tweety himself -- manically interrupting, spitting, and drooling. However, the characterization evolved, not true to the original, where Tweety became the "rational" character surrounded by oddball, extremist "guests", with HAMMOND-Tweety shaking his head in disbelief at their partisan spin.
So Alec's job on KRASNOV was perfect, and the current dude's is its own outlandishness. So now CBS News is in the WEISS era that has an even more dangerous edge with the transitioning of the big media into State control. Her supposed philosophy of "free speech" is to whiplash with balanced/contradictory "sides". That was her rationale for spiking the 60 Minutes piece, that it lacked an opposing/Stephen MILLER interview. Previously, in her being on some board creating "The University of Austin" (where she has her statue/bust), it was supposed to be about "free speech," leading to resignations by co-founders because they said it was stocked with Wingnuts, including some who were ANTI-free speech.
So her mini-me at the CBS evening news, DOKOUPIL, has crammed for a couple of weeks on her philosophy. I sampled the new product with him on it for a few minutes, and just about got *whiplash* with his quoting MAGAs in one sentence, then the Dems in the next sentence, and back and forth - YET, the overall effect is the normalizing and legitimizing of the MAGA side.
*** Who here has a line to the SNL writers?! They've got a priceless bit here, whiplash "both sides" format with a MAGAt veil over all.
At the 23:48 mark, DOKOUPIL showcases the Jan6 (he calls it "attack" ) insurrectionists thanking KRASNOV for the pardons, whip to KRASNOV blaming Dems, whip to Dems citing his "failure to prevent" it. Then at the 27:53 mark, he does a whiplash tribute/non-tribute/"cute"AI to RUBIO (I call him BATISTA) "MARCO RUBIO's 'MOMENT' " .
It's her statue/bust at "The University of Austin" - a "free speech" outlet
stocked with wingnuts (some, anti-free speech)
