These are happening in neighborhoods all over. We came out because because we couldn't just stay home. We couldn't not come out. And we're not giving up.

(14,751 posts)Its now on the leaders and law enforcement whether they will begin protecting the citizens or continue to stand silent in the face of this terrorist invasion.
Ocelot II
(129,524 posts)about their opposition to ICE. They have been anything but silent, but unfortunately state and local police have no power over federal law enforcement. The governor has called out the MN National Guard to assist the police in de-escalation.

(14,751 posts)Since when are federal employees exempt from law enforcement?
By your argument, if an fbi agent decides to hold up a gas station, local police cant arrest him. Its nonsense.
Every ice convoy to leave their hq could be accompanied/followed by a local pd vehicle. With body cams and vehicle cameras. Police officers do have the ability to arrest other LE who they personally observe breaking the law. They certainly can give testimony in court about what they personally observe.
I suspect if legitimate law enforcement was present to observe (as opposed to to collaborate) and enforce the laws, ice would get a lot less likely to blatantly break the law in their presence.
Sparkly
(24,854 posts)That wouldn't work, first because local LE is so vastly outnumbered by these anonymous, masked, untrained thugs. In addition, the Cosplaying GI-Joes are federal, so - someone correct me if I'm wrong - they sort of outrank the state if there were a conflict between the two, absurd though that is.
Local law enforcement is not collaborating - that is the very meaning of a sanctuary city or state.
quakerboy
(14,751 posts)But facts are that even in sanctuary areas police often find ways to help feds rather than uphold the law of their locality.
And at least as yet they do precious little to stand up for the citizens they are supposed to serve and protect.
Also, just to be real, law enforcement isn't sworn to uphold the law only if/when they outnumber lawbreakers.
Id also argue that if the police were to stand with the citizens, the citizens would stand with the police. And together they outnumber ice by a large margin.

(14,751 posts)Both waiting in politicians leading to deaths.
And fighting without fighting. Thats literally what the man they murdered today was doing.

(14,751 posts)really only state that he has tasked the national guard with protecting ICE.
Let me know when those national guard troops are there, facing the ICE terrorists (not the citizens that ice are terrorizing). Let me know when the local police or the local national guard prevent ice from throwing tear gas and flashbangs, or are at least in the way taking the brunt of those attacks to protect their fellow citizens.
So in short.. Not especially. I heard nothing in his words or propositions that seems likely to prevent or even slow ICE from their next murder.
