Texas Democrat James Talarico has built a national profile railing against GOP billionaires in politics but has quietly accepted funds from a PAC backed by one of the wealthiest donors in the Republican Party.
The single biggest donor to Talaricos state House reelection bid last year was a group funded by casino mogul Miriam Adelson, according to state campaign finance data.
Adelson, the widow of the late Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson, is one of President Donald Trumps largest financial supporters and seen as a boogeyman by much of the left. Talarico is now considering a run for Senate, which would test whether such ties are a vulnerability at a time when liberal voters say they want Democrats to aggressively take on Trump.
Talarico received a total of $59,000 from the Texas Sands PAC through donations in February and December of 2024, according to state campaign finance records. That makes the group both his biggest donor last year and one of his largest since he first ran for the state legislature in 2018.

(170,673 posts)James Talarico's campaign has raised significant funds primarily through small-dollar donations, with over 500,000 contributions from more than 290,000 individuals. His campaign emphasizes grassroots support, stating that 98% of donations were for $100 or less, and he has sworn off corporate PAC donations to focus on a people-powered campaign.

(28,951 posts)Has Talarico turned into a right-wing Trump supporter and changed his policies for $59,000? No he didn't.
Conspiracy theories that Democrats are corrupted by campaign contributions helps discourage potential voters, encourage cynicism and disengagement from politics. Big help to Republicans. It's getting really old. Who believes this garbage?

(2,701 posts)James looks really good, but why is he challenging Jasmine? Jasmine is a hero and we know she stands up to power.
We know she stands up for us.
We have a bit of data on James, and it mostly looks good, but with the support behind him, he could have set up a residence and ran in another race. To me, this looks really bad.
I will be voting for Jasmine tomorrow. If James wins I will grit my teeth and vote for him later, but he has already done wrong in my book. If he is what we need, then he needed to have chosen another race.

(18,305 posts)Jasmine couldve easily ran for reelection but she waited until the last minute to decide file the necessary paperwork.
James Talarico filed months before Jasmine Crockett. So, James did not decide to run against her, Jasmine chose to run against Talarico.
Check out the info for yourself. Pretty easy to find.
