Mon Mar 9, 2026, 02:41 PM

that if ANY nation launches ..........one goes, they all go.

Tiny Tactical Nukes are on the back of Putin's mind, when he is faced with failure in Ukraine. He may get away with that.
It is far easier for him to pick on Ukraine's Nuclear electrical power generation plants to do much the same thing, with just a drone.
Unknown to a lot of people, Ukraine spent years designing, financing, building, and installing a new major sarcophagus over the Chernobyl Reactor....... only to have Putin, recently punch a large gaping hole in it with just one drone, allowing the radiation to escape once again....

I can only imagine that any area hit with a nuclear bomb, will be un-inhabitable for quite some time. Like hundreds or even thousands of years?

Maybe someone knows??????

116. Ionizing radiation doesn't care about borders
Mon Mar 9, 2026, 05:31 PM

Ionizing radiation is a long-term effect of any nuclear blast in the atmosphere. It travels around the globe and causes cancer. This includes above-ground tests in the 20th century. Power plant mishaps also contribute.

This being the main worldwide effect presumes that the number of blasts is small in number. A large-scale nuclear war leads to nuclear winter. Best-case scenario is severe climate change and widespread famine. Worst-case scenario is human extinction.

Chernobyl will be unfit for human habitation for thousands of years. The bomb at Nagasaki was 20 megatons and there were no nuclear power plants there. Today's nukes can be hundreds of megatons. Big difference.

Being honest, Trump is batshit crazy and the idea of nuking some country would probably make him higher than a rat on acid, but...where does it end if that happens?

What is the end game?

What happens next?

And, I suspect that there are still nukes (suit-case, etc.,) somewhere out there from the fall of the old Soviet Union. We live in a free market economy and there are a few STEM personnel who have the skills, question is the materials, to complete a project. Plus, thanks to the billionaires, we have AI.

That is a bridge that we have to hope that even the GOP would want to avoid....and once that level of lawlessness is reached, everyone and everywhere is fair game.

IMO.

Arkhipov’s actions likely prevented an all-out nuclear war, the consequences of which would have included the deaths of millions, if not billions, of innocent people, a collapse of many nation states and their economies, and an enormous amount of environmental damage. Aptly, the U.S. National Security Archive has dubbed Arkhipov a man who “saved the world”

And he wants to be seen as THE most powerful man on the planet. There’s not a doubt in my mind that he’s itching to do it. And they’ve culled most of the military leaders that would have opposed him.

If they open this nuclear door, there’s no closing it. What’s to stop Russia from using one on Ukraine? Or China on Taiwan? Or North Korea on South Korea? The U.S. would be in no moral position to object. And no one else would be in a position to stop them.

The U.S. has protected the world order for decades. How ironic that we are the ones now tearing it down.

on something that was supposedly a joke, but. . . The story went that there was always the one guy we never saw in the command center, but was always there. Not the one who carried the codes, but the guy who was there to make sure those codes were never sent. If there ever was such a role, pretty sure it has been eliminated.

QUOTING from a DU thread titled "USA Sends Doomsday Plane E-6B Mercury to Middle East" :

USA Sends Doomsday Plane E-6B Mercury to Middle East
https://militarnyi.com/en/news/usa-doomsday-plane-e-6b-mercury-middle-east/
Legit? I think so..

The USA has deployed the E-6B Mercury airborne command post to the Middle East, often called the ‘Doomsday plane.’

Bankingnews reported about this on March 5, referencing OSINT analysts who monitor military aircraft movements.

The aircraft serves as a command center and facilitates communication with strategic nuclear submarines.

It is equipped with a system for transmitting launch codes for intercontinental ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads.

Additionally, due to its specialized communication systems, the E-6B Mercury can maintain command over nuclear forces even if the ground-based command infrastructure is destroyed.

53. BBC: Donald Trump's nuclear fixation - from the 1980s to now*
Sun Mar 8, 2026, 11:26 PM

[Note: This BBC article is from 2017 so the word "now" means 2017]

In August MSNBC's Joe Scarborough reported that candidate Trump had asked his foreign policy advisers several times why the US couldn't use its nuclear weapons - a claim the Trump campaign denied.

The report, however, followed on the heels of an April 2016 town hall forum exchange between Mr Trump and MSNBC's Chris Matthews, who asked him why he had refused to categorically rule out the use of nuclear weapons.

"Would there be a time when it could be used?" Trump replied. "Possibly. Possibly."

When pressed on the risks of openly talking of using nuclear weapons, Mr Trump said: "Then why are we making them? Why do we make them?"
......
In 1984 - at the height of the Cold War - Mr Trump even told a Washington Post interviewer he wanted to be put in charge of US-Russia nuclear arms negotiations.

"It would take an hour-and-a-half to learn everything there is to learn about missiles," Mr Trump said. "I think I know most of it anyway."

If he does nuke Iran, even with just one small nuke, who could retaliate with a nuke on the White House -- not Iran, only Russia or China could do so -- at least that's what I think -- anyone else? And would they?

My daughter lives on Capitol Hill, less than one straight line mile from the White House, basically ground zero. So she's toast. Literally.

We are in the DC suburbs in Northern Virginia, about 30-33 straight line miles from ground zero. The blast won't get us, however, we will die of radiation sickness within a few days.

Have I finally lost what's left of my 81-yr-old mind thinking about this? Survived a year in the bush in Vietnam in what seemed like a gunfight damn near every day, just to end up in the rubble caused by a madman?

I guess it was a waste to update our wills as we did a couple of months ago -- no one will be around to probate them.

Not a price they'd be willing to pay for a country that they really don't care about. More likely that Putin would use it as a green light to start dropping nukes on Ukraine, while China would pretend to be above it all.
