So, seeing how the GOP majority won't, We the Democrats must pick up the slack and verbalize why it matters.

...they don't need any encouragement to investigate republican corruption when they have the actual power to subpoena and hold meaningful hearings with a legislative goal.

Who needs that

I used to live in a town in SW AZ that was run by a local kakistocracy of old families and grifting politicians. The government was immensely corrupt. The citizenry was ignorant, apathetic, and cowed by fear of local government and law enforcement. There was no effective local media to explain to the populace what was going on. The system of controlling families, government, and law enforcement was a closed system that was basically impervious to change through e.g. electoral politics. The result was an ugly patchwork of irresponsible development, sketchy services, and lack of public accountability, so the locals suffered because of the corrupt politics.

My point is that there was literally no way to change or improve the situation without outside intervention. The FBI would have been the logical choice to come in, investigate, and try to clean up the mess. But, when the FBI is directed away from combating corruption, there is literally no way to improve things. That's where we are now. Trump's Amerikkka.

The immigration stuff is a smokescreen. They are trying to remove the threat of criminal charges and civil litigation from their cronies.

'White collar' crime is the worst. The punishments never approach the level of severity for the crimes. They usually get off with a little slap on the wrist.

UNLESS you are Bernie Madoff.

There are undoubtedly many that could be pursued by states in which the crimes were committed.

And then perhaps states could sue Pam Bondi/Justice Dept for costs of convictions -- and for damages associated with enabling additional crimes. Further investigation of the circumstances under which a case was dropped would undoubtedly turn up crimes for which she, and others, could be prosecuted by a state.

There would be no pardons for that shit
