H.S. Thompson. Well, yep.

"The main problem in any democracy is that crowd-pleasers are generally brainless swine who can go out on a stage and whup their supporters into an orgiastic frenzy-then go back to the office and sell every one of the poor bastards down the tube for a nickel."

So he knew exactly who they were and showed the world.

He was friends with George McGovern and Jimmy Carter and of all people, Pat Buchanan.

One early Sunday morning (I assume after a night of carousing) Hunter Thompson parked his car on Clement Street next to Lincoln Park Golf Course and proceeded to shoot golf balls flying by with his shotgun. I believe he moved to Montana soon after that incident, with the Boys in Blue’s encouragement.

Used to get Rolling Stone to read his columns. Actually saw him talk once at Notre Dame of all places. Student government had invited him to discuss the current state of politics, shortly after Nixon resigned. I was going to a public college a few hours away but friends and I drove up to see him.
Just as wild in person as his writing, profound and profane.
He never lived in Montana. Lived in Woody Creek, Colorado. Pretty close to the playground of the rich and famous, Aspen.
