The latest bout of fighting began in March, when Israel deployed troops in southern Lebanon against Hezbollah, a militant group backed by Iran. The fighting part of the larger war between Israel, the U.S., and Iran has uprooted more than 1 million people in Lebanon. Some 600,000 will be indefinitely displaced as Israel works to take control of the region, destroying villages along its border with Lebanon to create a buffer zone with Hezbollah. Thus far, Israeli strikes have killed more than 2,100 people, including 168 children.
Lebanese leaders have condemned Hezbollah for its attacks on Israel and demanded the group disarm. They have also called the Israeli incursion into southern Lebanon a land grab and said that Israel has blatantly violated the principles of international law and international humanitarian law.
WAR FUCKING CRIMES by Israel and the USA thanks to Chump and Repubs.

(9,132 posts)They need to be better at making peace; at building bridges between themselves and their neighbors; at helping create a peaceful and prosperous middle east community.
Terrorism creates terrorism.
The war between Arab and Jew has been going on since the 1940's.
When will it ever end? Certainly not with bombs, rockets, missiles, tanks, and invading armies.
The seeds of the next generation of Arab terrorists has been sown in Gaza and fertilized with the blood of the innocent women and children killed by Israel.
And now they are doing it again in Lebanon.
War never makes peace, it just insures that, if nothing else changes, there will be more war.

(5,781 posts)last remaining bridge over the Litani yesterday in advance of the cease fire, but some are trying to return to their homes anyway and getting some help with internal reconstruction efforts.
No matter what one thinks of Hezbollah, it was Netanyahu that kept bombing Lebanon during the ceasefire, not the other way around. If Israel needs a buffer zone, then create it on their side vs grabbing land from a country thats half your size. Taking south of Litani would be proportionately akin to a foreign power taking California and Texas from us.
