If and when we win the midterms I think we should focus on passing bills to help immigrants, the cost of

living. We should not focus on investigations and waste tax payer money. Trump is going to pardon everyone and the Supreme Court already ruled he can’t be held liable. We need to focus on doing stuff for the people, coming up with an immigration plan, etc. Dare Trump to veto things that are good for the public. Healthcare, Childcare, affordable housing!!!!

For all their talk on having more kids how about show people how they can afford to have them.

and put it on record.

And just because we win doesn't mean we will be able to pass much. The biggest benefit will be in stopping a lot of the shit from Republicans.

If we don't go after the law breakers, especially the wealthy or political ones, people already disillusioned with our fraying justice system will become even more disillusioned.
We keep saying no one is above the law, but consistently the rich and powerful prove that wrong. We absolutely need to do both- go after the lawbreakers, and help the ordinary people.

Look at all the war crimes and pillaging of our Treasury. They cannot allow democracy to come back because they will go to jail!

not that Trump wouldn't veto said repeal effort, but polls show that the majority of the people hate it,
and we can use it as a big issue going into the 2028 Presidential campaign---
and by moving a repeal to Trump's desk, we will show that Democrats are willing
and able to get rid of it, with a Democratic Congress and President!

The damage which will be done by that bill has only just begun to take effect---
and frankly all the extra costs being passed to the states for the SNAP program
are just a STEALTH effort to destroy that program--- since many states
will not be able to bear the extra costs and thus may drop the program altogether!

(And the 'work requirements' just pile more administrative costs onto the states---
two states have tried that already, but it cost them more to administer
than was saved, and it didn't result in more people getting jobs!)

legislate our priorities, if we control both houses of congress---

Let Trump take the blame for vetoing legislation which the voters support,
and these things become winning campaign issues for 2028!

I am reminded of the Buchanan presidency, during which, at the behest of the south,
Buchanan vetoed the first homestead act, a land-grant college act and a railroad bill....
All these became election-winning issues for LIncoln and the Republicans in 1860!

(My personal priority would be for Democrats to pass a repeal of the 'Big Beautiful Bill'
through budget reconciliation, and let Trump veto THAT---
polls show the majority of voters HATE that bill, and attempting to repeal it
would give Democrats a winning issue heading into the 2028 presidential election!)

Our behavior is almost as bad as the job market. The fighters of the revolutionary war, the people of the underground railroad, suffragists, the civil rights movement, and others would all die from cringe if they saw what utter disappointments the country and people have turned into.

I would also not put a focus on passing bills to help immigrants, either, at this moment in history when so many Americans are really hurting. I think that is one reason we didn't do so hot in 2024, because prices were going up, and even though Biden had done absolutely everything he could to turn things around after a global pandemic and mismanagement by the R's, people were still in a BAD place, unable to afford groceries, can't afford to buy a house, huge student loan debt, can't afford childcare, people aren't having kids or moving out of their parents' houses because they can't afford to. It's a MESS.

So I think creating programs that benefit immigrants when US citizens are hurting even worse right now than they were in 2024 is really, really bad optics and will hurt us in 2028. I think that's part of what hurt us in 2024, too. The optics were bad of so much being spent per immigrant to house the people in hotels in NYC when there were people who were losing their housing, couldn't afford food, etc. I think we should create programs that are good for everyone. Create programs that allow free lunch in all states. Create programs that address the cost of childcare. Tackle lowering drug prices for everyone and do it for more than just 10 drugs.
