VA: Parties Push for Voter Turnout Ahead of Tuesday's Special Election

Both Democrats and Republicans are urging voters to hit the polls ahead of Tuesday’s special election which would allow legislators to redraw the state’s congressional elections districts mid-decade.

The change requires a constitutional amendment because in 2020 the General Assembly voted to limit redistricting to every 10 years and requires it to be done by a bi-partisan commission.

Tuesday’s ballot includes one question: “Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?”

Early voting has already begun across the state and in Loudoun 14% of the county’s 310,049 voters have cast their ballots.
