For months, DHS has been laying the groundwork to massively scale up their detention capacity by converting warehouses into concentration camps across the country. Immigrants in these camps are kept in inhumane conditions, separated from their families and lawyers, and face even higher risk of abuse and death.
The camps are a moral abomination. Theyre also massively unpopular in every community where theyve been proposed. Thats why activists have already succeeded in stopping the construction of more than a dozen camps. The opposition has been strong even in deep red, rural areas -- so strong that even some Republican senators have spoken out against them.
But there cant be a public backlash if local residents dont even realize DHS is planning a concentration camp in their communities. The regime knows this and thats why theyre doing everything they can to keep the public in the dark. Well, its time to wheel in a big spotlight.
Were putting up billboards like this one to let residents know theres a proposed or existing detention camp in their area. These billboards could play a huge role in mobilizing local resistance to Trumps detention camps, but we need your help to fund them -- so please pitch in today if you can.
Billboard that says ICE camp is planned 5.7 miles ahead. Speak out and say not in our community."
Billboards, like this draft mockup, will go up in six locations near proposed or existing detention camps in: Surprise, AZ; San Antonio, TX; Hagerstown, MD; Natchez, MS; Orlando, FL; and Miami, FL. They will work hand in hand with our grassroots organizing tactics, including the Communities Not Cages national day of action were mobilizing for under the leadership of Detention Watch Network and Disappeared in America, this Saturday.
We need a wide range of tactics to raise the alarm and mobilize our communities against Trumps detention agenda. That includes rallies and protests, speaking up at city council and planning board meetings, and visibility tactics like these billboards. But all of our organizing relies on the support of grassroots donors, so if youre able to, please click here and pitch in today.
Whether or not youre able to donate today, we hope youll join us for the national day of action this Saturday. Click here to find an event near you and stay tuned for other actions you can take to defend our immigrant neighbors and communities.
In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
