(21,083 posts)Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries appeared on MSNBCs Ana Cabrera Reports and CNNs The Situation Room where he criticized Republicans gerrymandered Texas congressional map designed to rig the midterm elections and highlighted Democrats commitment to pushing back against the extremism being unleashed by Donald Trump and Republicans across the country.

(21,083 posts)House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is escalating his efforts this week to thwart Republicans nationwide redistricting push.
The New York Democrat spent the weekend in southern California, campaigning for the Proposition 50 ballot initiative that would let Democrats gerrymander Californias congressional map.
Behind the scenes, Jeffries also has continued to lobby state lawmakers in Illinois for a stalled redistricting effort there, according to sources familiar with his plans. And Jeffries has been plotting with Ohio Democrats on how to block a GOP attempt to draw out Democratic Reps. Emilia Sykes and Marcy Kaptur.
This multi-state effort is crucial for Democrats chances to retake the House majority.

(21,083 posts)House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) went public Wednesday with his pressure campaign urging Democratic state legislators to vote on a new congressional map.
Why it matters: Jeffries doesn't usually put himself in such public conflict with fellow Democrats, but he'll need every advantage he can get in his quest to become speaker in 2027.
The universe of competitive House seats is already historically small this midterm cycle. Jeffries is trying to persuade as many Democratic-controlled states as possible to redraw their legislative maps to counteract the GOP's mid-decade redistricting in Texas, Missouri and elsewhere
snip======================
Zoom out: Jeffries was successful in pressing Democratic legislators to draw new maps in California and Virginia that could collectively net Democrats as many as nine seats.

Those with an agenda for themselves are out there gaslighting that "Dems aren't fighting for us".
Glad you started this thread to get the Facts out there.

(94,447 posts)...instead of whatever this is.
There's plenty of resistance and opposition from the Democratic leadership for anyone professed to be concerned with such things to do more than just attack our own party.

(3,066 posts)too often Dems have been bringing a knife to a gunfight. There are so many examples and I'm sure you're just as aware of them as I am. The one that bothers me right now is the accent on affordability, when democracy needs just as much emphasis.

(5,434 posts)have finally realized that not voting or voting third party is not the most wise path, but I am skeptical. After 2000 and 2016, most critical thinking people would have realized what would happen, not the very least being the Supreme Court, but since many of those folks do not expressly regret not voting for VP Harris, I wouldnt bank on it.
