'What the hell do you say?': elder son of Rob Reiner speaks out on parents' murders

Jake Reiner calls parents 'center' of his life and says brother being at 'center' of loss is 'almost too impossible to process'

The elder son of beloved director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, eulogized his parents, who were "the center" of his life, in a Substack essay published Friday, four months after the pair were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home.

Nick Reiner, the couple's younger son, who long struggled with drug addiction and mental illness, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection to their deaths, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

"What the hell do you say to someone who is living through this reality?" Jack Reiner wrote in his essay, his first public comment on his parents' deaths.

"We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable. Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it. It's almost too impossible to process."

trouble processing and accepting this--I know I am.

So, I cannot even begin to comprehend how the family can do so. This is such an unimaginably cruel tragedy. I wish I had answers. I can only hope that they can somehow find peace in their lives.

These are probably the vast majority of what happens to us. They don't make 90 minute movies or simple stories.

I've been having discussions with friends about why they like the books or TV serials that start with a problem and end with a solution. (Until the next episode.)

It's been unfathomable to process, on a smaller scale than Jake, Romy, and all their friends and family, of course.

But still crave news on how they are possibly bearing this. I imagine it helps to speak out about it, and so glad Jake did.

💙💔☮️🌻🕯️🕊️💜

So Nick is pleading not guilty.

Unfortunately, for any famous people, the prying paparazzi will dig around anyway.

I'm sure they love their brother, but how can they ever accept this horrible loss? How can they ever forgive him?
None of their lives will ever be the same.
