General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMy only comment about the WHCD incident is that I'm not surprised, I'm not concerned and I really don't care
No one was killed, not even the alleged suspect, and no guests or journalists were injured.
Since the start of 2026 there have been over 120 mass shootings in our country. Over 3,800 people have died and over 6,500 people have been injured. It's been just a little over three months since this administration shot and killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
Not a single person in this administration and very few of the guests who attended this event have ever shown any sincere concern or care about the epedimic of gun violence in this country.
Again, no one at this event was killed or injured. It's difficult for me to have concern when the attitude of those involved is gun violence for thee but not for me.

(2,072 posts)he used buckshot because he didnt want unintended victims hurt badly. Sorry I cant remember the source as I saw it scrolling through myriad FB posts.

(4,525 posts)... was loaded with buckshot, according to his "manifesto". Just one buckshot pellet can wreak serious damage, and even kill if it hits in the right place. A full load can blow a man in half at close range. The cartridge itself would have to be what they call "high-brass", which refers to brass casing at the bottom of a shotgun shell. High-brass is necessary for the increased gunpowder charge behind the wad and the 9 pellets usually found in a double-00 shotgun shell.
I believe that one LEO was hit, but he was wearing a ballistic (bullet-proof) vest. Pellets on the outside of the pattern could have hit an unprotected arm, but regardless, the just force of the impact at close range could inflict internal injuries even through a vest.

(19,011 posts)... In Massachusetts, and other densely populated states, deer hunters can only use shotguns loaded with buckshot. Here in Vermont, rifles are permitted. I don't hunt anymore, but when I did, the Savage 99 F model with the rotary magazine chambered for .308 was my weapon of choice. It's a very accurate lever action rifle mounted with a 4 x scope with duplex crosshairs.
My Winchester 12 gauge Model 12 shotgun with a factory-shortened barrel was only used for gamebirds. The shorter barrel was easier to maneuver in dense cover.

(52,568 posts)long ago atrophied. This country does not take shootings seriously. Not even if it involves a classroom of innocent children. So why would it matter for the president, who hasn't lifted a finger to show any interest in stopping this level of violence?

(42,051 posts)Maybe it wasn't even a potential or planned shooting. For all we know it was a TV reality show, and Chump is always the star, no matter what happens.

(2,461 posts)is that with all those Secret Service, he wasn't immediately filled with a hundred bullets. The Secret Service is not trained to do anything but eliminate the threat.......
I suppose now, with him alive, the Republican owned/operated mass Media and Fox News can constantly use him, every day, from now to the next election, in the news.

(788 posts)Yet, John Hinkley was not killed, neither was Squeaky Fromme or Ryan Routh. Maybe eliminate the threat encompasses more than just killing the suspect?

I had to laugh at Trumps press gathering afterwards....He gave away one of the SS's security secrets...........

Hes demented, and lying. He should be in jail for breaking the law with his ballroom.
Also, Iran. Also, Epstein. Also, did the price of gas go down following this brief incident? Has anyone gotten their health insurance back? A raise? Or did they just get fired, or have their food stamps taken away? Can anyone afford child care now? Pay off a student loan?
Also, Iran. Also, Ukraine. Also, Cuba.

(3,424 posts)WHO fired the shots.
I see a guy running through a checkpoint and out of frame.
I see a lot of weapons drawn by security.
Who fired the shots? I say it was security.
The impressive part is that this guy is alive to talk.
Since everyone switched from revolvers to semi-autos, I notice a tendency to 'empty the clip' when shooting anything.
Aiming is optional as everyone is now gangsta.
Watch the news and tell me I'm wrong.

Who said 'gun deaths are the price we pay for freedom'?
Ok, Charlie Kirk, amongst others.
The reaction from the crowd at the WHCD event says 'yeah, ok, but not here, and not me!'
Wolf Blitzer - gosh, guns make a scary noise!
Not much of a 'freedom' to have to live with, really.
