But guns were confiscated on a pretty large scale after Hurricane Katrina. I'm unaware of any of the owners resisting in any 2nd Amendment way.

I live in a red rural area, with a lot of Pubs in my extended family. I know a couple reasonable gun nuts, and a lot more unreasonable ones.
Quite a few of them are quite willing to kill someone who would try to take their beloved guns. Someone mentioned the post-Katrina confiscations and how people complied. That was inside New Orleans. The problem people I'm familiar with don't even go into cities, let alone live there.
